Law enforcement, doctors, educators, clergy support ban on assault weapons

Washington—A diverse group of organizations has come together to support the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (S. 150), introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on January 24.

“The wide range of groups and individuals standing behind the Assault Weapons Ban speaks to the commonsense nature of this bill,” Feinstein said. “The American public is behind this bill, doctors are behind it, teachers, law enforcement, religious leaders, mayors—it’s time for Washington to follow suit.”

Groups range from the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the American Medical Association to the National Education Association and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Former Republican Governors Tom Ridge (Pennsylvania) and George Deukmejian (California) also support the bill.

That's....quite a list, but just because the organization supports, doesn't mean all of its individual members support banning. Silly Feinstein, generalizing is for kids...

Doesn't matter how many people support it if it isn't Constitutional.

True, but we wouldn't even be in this mess if our politicians and apparently a lot of American citizens actually respected, understood, and lived by the Constitution...

It makes me wonder how many of the LEO credentials would be there if they took the LEO/retired LEO exemption out of the bill...

And we could just as easily find "Law enforcement, doctors, educators, clergy" that dont support it either.

And I dont really care who supports it.....constitutional rights can't be stripped by popular opinion or vote.

So if I can get enough support.....can I we....say......get something like slavery reinstituted? I mean if we are gonna throw the constitution out the window....that means everything is back on the table right?

The very fact they list their support proves they are still justifying their position.

Unconstitutional is just that...the bum can't leave office soon enough. 8 years of waste, fraud, abuse and demoralization of a nation.

I called and yelled at my academy and the California Medical Association for stating their support for Leland Yee's previous bill. It seems that they got the message-I don't see them on the list.

They all live in cookie-cutter homes with gated communities -- let's not forget their armed security patrolling their neighborhoods. Anyone see what is wrong with that? The rich elite class want to disarm the "lower" classes. That's history 101 for y'all.

It really doesn't matter who is all for the ban.

Our forefathers stated "shall not be infringed" for all people, situations and circumstances.

If you poll 100 people and 95 of them tell you that 2 + 2 = 5, they are still wrong. I noticed how she's not including in her list all those sheriffs that have signed letters pledging not to support unconstitutional gun control.

Chaska, Minn., Police Chief Scott Knight, former chairman of the Firearms Committee, International Association of Chiefs of Police
Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck
San Diego Police Chief Bill Lansdowne
Well aside from the actual Chiefs and Sheriff (who are politicians) I have never heard of any of those organizations. I did look some of them up and the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence is a joyce foundation entity. Not exactly strong support from Law Enforcement at all. I think most of those organizations are just a bunch of shills.

Couldn't agree more. The people screaming the loudest about gun control are the ones with the most armed security. Go figure.

The CTA never asked any of us teachers about endorsing this.

It is the union bosses who support it - not the workers who they treat as slaves.

Keep in mind many big city law enforcement officials are now operating military equipped police and have a mentality that all civilians are a threat and they are an occupying force. Our local Police have armored personnel carriers, light machine guns (m-249 SAW), LAW anti-tank launchers, grenades, and recently got a predator drone (unarmed as of now). Forget needing to call in the national guard the police here have more firepower than some foreign nations.

My question - why should I care what religious, medical, or educational organizations think about my right to keep and and bear arms? It's like Biden opining that a double barrel shotgun is the best self defense weapon... everybody is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't mean it's worth listening to.

This "proposed legislation" is all simply bullcrap.

Business Negotiating 101:

Ask for EVERY possible point - Even the crap that seems ridiculous and you know you'll never get -

Because while negotiating you can "give away" and "be flexible" with the crap you didn't really want anyway.

We shouldn't give a f-ing inch...

Doesn't matter, The bill doesn't have the votes. Senate majority leader won't even bring it to a vote.

They are currently working on alternatives but nothing more than a universal background check will pass the house if that.

This is true. I am trying to start a group that tries to counter the leadership of an organization supporting such bans or politicians who support them. I was flamed so I these its a stupid idea and we shouldn't say anything.

I am a physician. I am held to being "the expert" in medicine. I can't fall back on feigned ignorance and the statement that the patient should have known better than I. When an officer "can't be expected to know the entire penal code", but a citizen is held to "ignorance is no excuse", this is equivalent to ME being able to sue my patient for my own malpractice-after all, the patient should have known better, right?

Well if it makes you guys feel better. My dad is a Seventh Day Adventist pastor, and has had a LTC since i can remember, along with the proper rifles needed to put down tyrants and dirtbags wishing to take said rifles away.

Not the former mayor of Morro Bay! We're doomed! Somebody call Alan Gura and tell him thanks anyway but maybe he should switch to family law.
