I use the old ceramic carbon pump myself, but chlorine and iodine tabs work well (like ur bag.)

I got excited about the UV wands that you wave around killing the little uglies.
Also, if you need to treat a basecamp amount of water, they now have a charged brine device. You take some of the water ur trying to purify, put it in the little device that takes batteries, charge it, then dump it into the larger bin of water. 4 hours later its all good.

It's called MiOx. http://www.miox.com/miox-solutions/M...ifier-Pen.aspx I looked into it and it does what it says and many nations use it for mass production of water treatment. Its not all that great for personal use. It has no great advantage over UV. It has a disadvantage of few retailers have them while the UV lamps are everywhere.

UV is just as good, cheaper and treats faster

Pool Shock is cheap, light weight and makes 75s of gallons of bleach, which will treat 1000s of gallons of water.

So if your plan for water needs to be several levels. Filter, then Fire or bleach or UV.

I made my own filter system out of rocks, screen and active charcoal.

I used this type of filter which I made myself. My filter is longer (larger) which filters more water. I carry it in my backpack. I used 1" diameter PVC, with 3 inch long filtering chambers; screen, stone, foam then charcoal.

Do you then treat chemically after you filter with your similar setup as this guys?

If so, what do you use?

I have a 30k gal pool but no filtering for it. I would imagine I could bucket out water, but then I need to do something for filtration.

can you post a link to those videos my tablet cannot use the imbeded videos because it cant support the flash player. Does the UV use bateries that can be recharged? If it cant then that defeats the purpose of just a BOB plan. Is the filter able to be used by a copper tube instead. I dont like PVP as they leach chemicals over time.
