Default Finished 6 digit Springfield

My research shows a born on date of March, 1942. Odds are this saw action somewhere.

I bought it as a barreled action from a member, then slowly put it together. I put a NOS gas tube on it, and slapped an Italian BM59 stock on it. The stock was ok, but it had a one inch plug at the muzzle end to make it long enough.

When I got it, the receiver was in the white, with the only park remaining in the deep corners and engraving. I had it refinished at Tech Plate in Anaheim, and they did a great job.

Recently, I picked up an unfinished Boyd's WWII thin profile stock, and using the how to refinish a stock thread, put about 6 coats of pure tung on it and then 4 coats of military stock wax from Tom's.

I was waiting on a Turner sling, but it hasn't come yet.

I put it together anyway, and if this works (first pictures from an iPad) here is what my Garand looks like today. Other than the pretty intense pitting on the lugs, it looks like a new rifle. I figure all in I'm at $600 or $700.

Looks good, you did a nice job.

Now put some grease on the thing and get it to the range

Looks good. If you are all in at $600-$700 I would like to know where you are buying Garand parts

Thanks. It's easily my favorite rifle.

First, you need a time machine.

I put it together several years ago, I just now got around to replacing the stock. I think I paid 300 or so for the barreled action, picked the rest up on a piecemeal basis. It's been together sans the new stock for several years.

Mine is born on jan 42. Even though the barrel is 12-65 the gun is the receiver. I'd very much like to think, hell, I know, it saw action.

Rebarreling only gives new life to an old soldier. A barrel is a metal tube. It's the tool. The receiver is the heart. It's how the receiver gets to work. Parts is parts. But the rifle is the receiver.

And yes early 42 saw some work!!!

Yes. Unfortunately, as time marches on this hobby is escalating in price no matter what the economy is doing. I am very glad I jumped on this one when I did, otherwise I would have missed out. Of course, guys who were all over cmp in the 80 s really got value.

Looks good! How about the barrel and trigger group? Match with the 1942 receiver? Also, have you taken it out on the range?

Looks like she will be a great shooter, and goes very well with the Easter bunnies! Nice work!
