Default SB 53 Hearing This Tuesday at the State Capitol

Just a notification I'm forwarding from the good people at Lucky Gunner I just received for all who are able to show up this Tuesday in Sacramento to make your voice heard as a legal gun owner:

California Gun Owners - Public Hearing
Tuesday, June 10 at 9 a.m.
Hey California Lucky Gunners,

On Tuesday morning, California's Committee on Public Safety will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. related to Senate Bill 53. This is the same bill co-authored by Leland Yee. Yes, the same Leland Yee federal authorities indicted for arms trafficking and corruption!

While Yee refuses to resign his California Senate spot, the bill now has a new co-author and is back in front of lawmakers for consideration.

If this bill becomes a law, it will have a massive impact on how you buy ammo and exercise your 2nd Amendment rights as a gun owner:

Ban online ammunition sales in California
Require a background check and two-year renewable permit (with fee) to buy any ammunition
All ammunition purchases would be recorded/documented
A myriad of other changes related to buying and owning firearms
We urge you to become familiar with California's SB 53, voice your thoughts to your elected representatives, and if you can, show up Tuesday morning at the hearing.

Public Safety Committee staff indicated to us Friday afternoon that lawmakers will be taking public comment on this bill Tuesday morning so the more pro-2A supporters in attendance, the better!

Again, the hearing will take place Tuesday, June 10 at 9 a.m. at the California State Capitol.

California State Capitol
Room 126
1315 10th Street
Sacramento, California 95814

If you can't make it to Tuesday's hearing. You can find contact information for your elected officials based your address here.

Also, you can read the full text of the bill here.

For more information on Tuesday morning's hearing, please head here to the Committee on Public Safety's website.

Thanks for taking the time and stay strong. This legislation has come close to passing in the past but the shooting community remains vigilant and passionate about protecting their rights!

- Heidi and the Team at Lucky
Gunner

Wasn't this or something very similar already vetoed once? What's different about this one?

Wasn't vetoed, he just didn't sign it. Same bill as last year IIRC.

they don't care about constitutional muster or this being considered a "poll tax" it's all about harassing gun owners and making it burdensome and expensive.

never mind the fact that these laws hurt the people in the inner cities that are mainly populated by minorities the very people who they say they are trying to protect which isn't true and show that gun control at it's very core is racist.

It will in the utterly corrupt 9th, unless the Peruta 3 decide it.

And you can bet that SCOTUS won't listen to any appeal. They're done with guns.

Does it deal with firearms directly or just ammunition? I didn't like the "myriad of other changes" part.

It will have to be done similiar to a PPT

2) Commencing July 1, 2016, the sale of ammunition may only be conducted by an ammunition vendor licensed pursuant to Section 30385.

Naa, I'm calling FUD .... ^^^ That's within the State. They can't control legal purchases made in other States unless they make "importation" illegal.

!@#%#!$%... I thought this died forever last year. Again, this puts the .22LR benchrest match people out of business. We can't get that ammo locally.

Buying it out of state and bringing it in would be legal.

But private party purchases in state would have to go through a vendor.

What's to stop you now from private or out of state aquiring of rebuild kits? The penalty for getting caught, even if the chances of it are low, will make it simply not worth the risk for many folks. They will find a way to make ammo not worth the risk.

What are the ways they could identify where ammo came from?

(If I bought ammo from out of state and brought them in. Are there numbers on the box or something that could say where I bought the ammo?)

No. But it's analogous to rebuild kits, they have no way to prove where or when or how you got them. They pretty much have to catch you in the act of importing or transferring them, and once they do, you're screwed. Ammo will be the same. There'll still be people who decide it's worth the risk, but there'll be a big majority who won't. Getting busted and losing your 2A rights is not a small deal to most of us.

Antis tried to rip a page out of our playbook, getting all "grassroots" with a bunch of stooges voicing support for the bill. Good points by our guys, unfortunately fell on deaf ears.

If it passes, I'm going to set up an ammo store right on the AZ/Cal border at Yuma. I'll have a huge sign off the I-8 advertising "Last stop, ammo for California".

I'll make a killing.

Just watched it pass Safety Committee: the support was huge; the argument(s) against were two and weak. Opposition seemed disorganized and very few. This thing is going to be on the floor in no time.

We've got to do better on the next hearing.

Given the result was predetermined, a better organized opposition wouldn't have made a difference. Ed Worley was solid as usual. Remember that this same bill passed out of this committee last year.
