Default I just wanted to be first

I have about a half dozen M1 rifles but I think this is the coolest one. Not only is it a Pearl Harbor rifle but the serial number is 416K on the dot. I've switched the beech rear HG for a walnut one that matches better since these photos were taken.

Boiled Linseed oil, or Linseed oil.

I guess I coulda mentioned TO...... Tung oil too.

All work well, all have thier quirks about show&shine and ease/difficulty of application and dry time.

But IIRC the *true* mil spec finish was usually LO for the later garands.

It was still a work in progress when those photos were taken. I had sweated as much of the nasty grease and cosmoline out of that stock as I could and didn't put anything on it until I found a rear hg to match up with the stock and front hg. The wood was pretty dry when I took those pictures. It now has a few coats of BLO on it and a walnut rear hg.

SOME guns can/do have "papers" or at least a paper trail saying which company/ even platoon got which batch of guns. I dunno what the range is for guns on/at Pearl harbor but you can be assured there was SOME guns there............ But as for the NAVY having Garands at pearl......... that would take some research and simply outta my memory bank

A lot of people refer to any rifle manufactured in Dec of 1941 as a "Pearl Harbor rifle". I think mine was manufactured mid month so there's no way it was there. I do remember a guy who received a low number 1903 earlier this year that had documentation that it was salvaged from a ship that was sunk at Pearl Harbor.
