Question Gen 1 Glock?

I've got a Glock 19 purchased in early 1992. I'm think this is gen 1. But my question is really, are there people out there that prefer a gen 1 Glock for some reason over a 2 or 3?

thanks,

Mark

I'd keep it, want it just for the history.
It would be neat having every generation of the best handgun design on planet earth.

there were very few Gen 1 G19s manufactured. if you have one, it is very rare and with high value. i'd guess that your G19 may be a Gen 2 G19; i believe the Generation 2 G19 first came into production in 1988.

i like the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Glocks the most; i prefer non-railed to railed, and i like the grip area better on earlier Glocks.

Welcome to Cal Guns...!..Plenty of nice people here.

A gen2 G19 is a great gun. I am sure it's had the free GLOCK upgrade? (internals replaced).

http://www.glockmeister.com/GlockFactoryUpgrade.asp

I bought my first GLOCK 17 in 1987. Had a couple of Gen1 G17s; sold them a couple of years ago.

Still have a Gen2 G17 from July 1992; my 15 year old daughter loves that Glock and enjoys shooting it.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

Didn't know there was a gen 2 Glock 19. FWIW, the gen 2 17s are my favorite.

I'd love to get a couple of Gen1 Glocks just because of the history...but I wouldn't pay much of a premium for them.

No, no, what you have is very special! The Glock 19 Gen2 is arguably the BEST work horse gun ever made. If not the best gun definitely the best Glock ever made.

if your glock has marks like this then it is special and worth more money to collectors than a standard gen 2.

My Glock 19 was built 12-89 and has the markings in Mossy's post. The serial number prefix is KK which according to the Glock site is a Gen1 but it has a Gen2 frame. Also had a 17L Gen1 without the ported barrel. It was made in the second group of 1000. Kinda miss that one.

I had a Gen1 G17 (1986 production date) that went kaboom. Glock was awesome and fixed it for free, but replaced the cracked frame with a Gen3 frame. Very sad. I really want my Gen1 back, because it feels much better than the Gen3.

I wish I had my Gen1 still.. to me the smooth (and smaller) grip was nicer to hold and the lack of texture can be easily fixed with grip tape or stippling..

At least I have my Gen1 standard-cap mags to keep the memory alive

I had a chance to buy another one at Turners for $300 in the consignment counter (no mags) and I blew it..

Also, some people prefer the gen1 and gen2 since they don't have rails and are thus more streamline..

I'll have to check, but pretty sure I would have noticed that speical mark on it.
The friend that got me into Glocks had a gen 1 17 and I preferred the size of the 19 (I don't have meat hook hands like he did) and I like the textured grip versus smooth (though never held a smooth 19).
It has been a great gun, 1,000s of rounds through it and narry a problem. I don't have the internals upgrade. Friend of mine told me about that years ago, I will investigate getting that done soon.

I would happily get rid of my Gen 3 for a Gen 1. I would trade my modded Gen 3 17 for a stock Gen 1 17L in a heartbeat. I had one of the 1st Glock 17's way back when, wish I never got rid of it. I had a lot of great guns, as a matter of fact. I must have been a lot smarter when I was younger!

I just joined this forum and have already learned a ton. Its awesome. I have a 17L gen 1 with those markings, I will post a picture. First handgun I ever bought. I pondered selling it and so did a search, and already have cold feet! I want another Glock with a light rail but maybe I should just save up cause I would probably regret selling this one...

I've got a Glock 22 purchased in 1989 (or '90-can't remember). It's been primarily a safe queen. I believe purchase price was $300.

daily and methodically check out the "Private Firearms Sales" section here on Calguns under the "Marketplace" heading. you can also post your 'want to buy' on the "WTB (Want To Buy)/Services Offered Forum" under the "Marketplace" heading.

i have a Gen 2 G17 on layaway at my lgs that's getting close to being paid off; close to lnib, i'm excited about this purchase... especially already having a number of time period accessories and goodies from one i sold many years ago. it's always nice to replace one that got away.

There was a gentleman shooting a gen 1 17 at the GSSF match in Davis. Brought the gun in its original Tupperware- the one where the lid lifts completely off.. Pretty awesome!
