Default Rocket stove

Built up this rocket stove as a backup cooktop. Burn tube is 4" pipe housed in some old propane cans. Dead space filled with vermiculite for insulation.

Will take it camping soon and try it out.

I have made a couple of them using dog food cans as the internal piping and #10 cans for the external housing. I used wood ash from my wood stove as the insulation and installed three bolts on top to set the pot on.

I tested it by boiling a measured amount of water striaght from the tap which I brought to a boil on my range top. It took 10 minutes 45 seconds to boil.

On the rocket stove the same amount of water atraight from the tap took less than 5 minutes to boil. It used a bundle of twigs about the diameter of a silver dollar and about 8 inches long.

Very efficient and very quick.

4" pipe cut at a 45* angle and welded together. I guess u could use an elbow as opposed to welding.

It is a bit heavy. Not something you are gonna want to be carrying around. I also totally over built it with a lot of heavy gauge steel.

Definitely a stove for bugging in, not bugging out, at least not on foot.

Mine is like these, only with long bolts on top to rest the pot on. Much lighter and more portable.
