Default Savage Axis Input

Anybody have any good/bad experiences with Savage Axis? I'm looking to get one in 22-250.

They shoot fine but are the lowest end model savage you can buy. The stock is awful and the workmanship is sub-par. If you are just looking for a beater they are fine but also understand that they do not take that same parts as the standard Savage 10/110 rifles. Finding aftermarket upgrades would be very difficult if not impossible. You best bet is go with a 10 or 11 model. Much more options and only a few bucks more.

Stock is bad on ergonomics, and rigidity but can be reinforced/bedding filled to stifen it up, accuracy wise once barrel is freefloated and action bedded they are accurate .75 MOA with std. commercial 150-165 grain and 5/8"-3/4" with handloads.

The action is very ridgid/smooth more so then a rem 700, triggers can be lightened to 2 lbs.

When someone make a better laminated (Boyds) stock this action will come alive.

i have one in 223. it is more accurate than my MINI 14 at 1/2 the cost. put a cheep 60 dollar WM scope on it and nail drive away. proud of the one i have. savage makes VERY accurate rifles out of the box. i would put my savage heavy barrel FV 22lr up against any 22 target rifle out their.

I've got the Axis XP in .223. Mine has some ejection and extraction problems but I may have caused some of it myself.

Turns out mine hates steel case ammo (several others tell me the same) and I've had several bind up so tight I had whack the bolt several times to pull them out. So between the steel case and my hammer hand I probably effed up the extractor.
