Default mini 14 on rain check, buy it?

I had been looking to get 5 ARs, one for each member of my family. Sadly i only had 4 before the craziness happened. Anyway im in big 5 a week or so ago and they have the mini 14 on sale but of cousre not in stock. Guy asks if i want a rain check. Sure why not right, like it will ever come in. They called today, its in.

So here is my question... buy it? Or hold out and wait for the insanity to die down?

I'd wait but I'm not a Mini-14/30 fan. I'd much rather have Saiga.

I have a good amount of AR's, and because of the non sense that was going on last year with the BB issue on AR's. I pulled the trigger and bought a Mini 14. Honestly, best purchase I've made in awhile.

I say buy it! Luckily I got my brand new Mini-14 for $630 out the door, I'm not sure how much they're going for now though haha.

I'd get it. If you decide you don't like it, sell it for $50 less than you paid for it. You aren't going to find anything semi-auto in .223 that you can pick up in 10 days for $799 right now. You'd be lucky to get something in 60 days.

I think you are right. The price with tax and dros is around $850. Still higher then i would like bet better then paying twice that for an ar these days.

I would get it man because you never know whats going to happen. If a ban on semi auto rifles goes through then you will be kicking yourself. BUY IT. ammo is scarce for that gun though so hopefully you have some stockpiled!

Bought mine (new Ranch) right after the election...about $775 OTD. Great gun, fun to shoot. Be aware that ammo and mags are very scarce. I'd say get it.

Probably about $100 mpore than I would want to pay, but.... in this climate, it's not too bad, if you dont like it you can flip it and not lose any money. Heck some one in Fresno has one on backpage for $2000!!!!!

Because I live in California my Mini-14s are my home defense carbines. The last thing I want is to be handicapped by a bullet button in a fight for my life. Buy it.

Love the Mini.. but unless the Mini has some serious extras or work done on it.. I don't think I'd pay more than $650 for it (even less if its a pencil barrel model).

I'd buy it. Mainly because I like to be able to change magazines without a "tool".

The only down side I see is that it takes different magazines. But if you don't have any high (regular) capacity magazines already, it doesn't really matter. In the climate we have today, I would get it. Just be sure to stock up on Ruger factory magazines to go with it. For what it is, they are hard to beat. And while they are normally a bit overpriced, with what is going on at the moment, I would consider that to be reasonable. And if you don't like it, you can sell it for more in a couple of weeks.

I would not hesitate to buy it. The Mini 14 is a great gun, but magazines were very difficult to find even before the madness. And very few aftermarket mags are reliable like authentic Ruger mags. So if you are going to buy it, start looking for mags right away.

I would go for it. My BIL had one years ago, one of the older series. It was a fun gun to shoot. Too bad he sold it. I have wanted to add a Mini 14 to my collection for some time. The lack of bullet buttons on the Mini is a true plus. I think you will be happy with the purchase.

Buy it, not because of a possible awb, but because it is a fun gun to shoot, and would make a nice stablemate to your collection of ARs.

Ok Ok, I'm going to get it.

I love the guys though who are all.... I wouldn't pay more then $600 for one though! Really, new, at retail? lol. Better watch out, you are showing your age. You'll be out on the porch shouting at the kids to get off your lawn and *****ing about how gas used to cost $.05 a gallon

Well, you can always dive into the madness at Gunbroker.

Only reason I prefer the M1 Carbine over the Mini-14 right now is ammo availability. I can get .30 cal easy, but as for 5.56....well....you already know.

However, that being said i'll likely end up buying one of each later on down the road when funds allow. Gun collection is a sickness for some (like me).

Have you checked on the caliber of the available mini? If you havent purchased it up to this point, someone probably already picked it up. I know they are avail in 223, 6.8spc, and of course mini 30s in AK caliber

All three of those calibers are on backorder/unavailable everywhere right now. 30 Carbine is hurting too, but you can still get a box of Armscor (50 rd) from CTD for $22.64.

...but then again things will die down eventually unless California has plans on ammo restrictions. Not trying to sway anyone, just out there as an option.

I had a Mini 14 long before I ever had an AR. Other than being slightly more complicated to field strip and pricey magazines, it has been great.

Yes. Buy it.
