Not sure what Kest looks like but I got in around the time the Gadsen flag guy came on, didn't catch his name. For the most part it seemed pretty one sided in that more people where against banning the show then where in support of it. Most people who where for banning it seemed more concerned with the city's perception to other people. One person hit it on the head that guns and Glendale haven't exactly been seen as **** buddies.

I really liked one of the council members motion to table the discussion until all council members visited the gun show. Sadly it died.

Who pays for the upkeep of the "City" property? If they do not allow the gun show to continue, then the resident gun owners should not have to help fund the city property where this no longer takes place.

Councilman Ara Najarian seems pretty awesome a council member. Seems to understand that the call to ban to this show is more about false calls for safety than any real action against safety.

Tony: The anti-show councilmembers are arguing that there are other shows that they don't allow. I would assume porn shows are not allowed. Not that I don't disagree that they aren't playing into the fears people have right now.

Indeed he does.

I completely agree with his "this isn't about gun control it is about control."

I'm loving his little video montage and now he is going on about the LA riots.

Hopefully he can sway his fellow council members.

Sadly we just did. The last bit of the mayor's statement really tweaked me. The AK-47s which were used to kill his comrades in Vietnam were probably fully automatic and nothing except cosmetically similar to the semi-automatic AK-47 style firearms sold to law abiding gun owners today. Simple and utter ignorance.

It sounds like there will be another vote in early March to make the final decision. But yes, unfortunately, the ordinance sounds like it will be drafted.

How gracious of them to not cancel the show in March. They where also kind enough to offer other city venues, such as hotels.

There were five satellite news vans outside the council chambers. Even Spanish Univision channel 34. This will have nationwide coverage and repercussions. ... and the council members knew this and played to it. We need to redouble our efforts.

3 to 2 to draft a legally defensible ordinance to ban sales of guns on city owned property, not including the March show.

Draft to be submitted by city attorney by March 5th at the latest.

The contract allows both parties to cancel with thirty days notice.

They will not interfere with private venues hosting the show, Read: Hilton Hotel (Whether they will allow this is a different question).

The 60 number was just the people who spoke on the topic, there were several people in attendance who were just watching and did not speak.

The question I was asking was because the issue here is the appearance that the city is endorsing the gun show by allowing it at the city civic center, if the gun show is held at a private venue such as the Hilton, would it require a permit being an event of that size, and that would still need to be approved by the city, putting them in the same situation as "endorsing" the gun show.

There is also the other obvious roadblock of if any private convention hall such as Hilton would allow firearms on their premises.

Channel 7 news indicates the vote was 4 to 1, so the douche Weaver looks like he caved. Just a FYI he is under indictment for embezzlement from a street marketplace and irregularities with home improvements at his his condo with a builder he approved a city contract for public housing.

RETRACTION: THIS IS INCORRECT, THE FORMER COUNCILMAN INDICATED HERE IS JOHN DRAYMAN

Default Own goals

I wish we didn't have so many people on our side get up just to score an own-goal. The city councilmen who are likely to vote yes don't care about the Constitution or resisting tyrrany (apparently one does, but he's already on our side), so it's counterproductive to bring out the Gadsden flag and tell elected officials that we need the guns to resist them if they try to oppress us. Gadsden Flag guy gave a good speech for gun-rights audience, but who in blue blazes thinks that's an appropriate target audience for a city council meeting?

Try to remember English 101, folks--write for your audience. That even applies to Mr. Najarian, whose slide presentation was revival-meeting material for gun people but probably was a net negative for the actual purpose of swaying votes on the council.

Best speech of the night was the young man who I think isn't one of us at all, but zeroed in on the real issue--that the proposed ordnance targets a particular group for second-class status. I didn't hear all of it because I was out in the hall resting my back, but I heard enough to know it was very good indeed. Unfortunately the probable yes votes on the council are doubtless not capable of really recognizing the point, because to accept it would mean to identify themselves as the bigots they are. But still, it's better than talking about the second amendment to a bunch of politicians who would be more likely to ban guns if they thought the people might use them against politicians, and in any event are not officers of a sovereign entity.

In any event, the only swayable vote I see on the council is perhaps Mr. Weaver, but I think in the end he'll vote against the gun show because he'll decide it isn't worth the trouble and he's of two minds about it anyway. And either way that's only two votes. I suspect Manoukian and Friedman are certain yes votes, and I'm pretty sure Mr. Quintero will stay on the wrong side in the end no matter what. Which sucks, because I think he'd have to be the third vote. He's patriotic enough to want Americans not to have evil AKs because it's what is usually shooting at our troops, but not patriotic enough to defend the meaning of the Constitution (which, I note, has no noticeable exceptions for redcoat brown bess smoothbores, notorious patriot-killers that they are).

I talked to Kes afterwards, but don't know the rest of you well enough to say hi. I was disappointed he didn't introduce himself to the council as as "head janitor."

Dustin

saw it on the news tonight. one council member stated his concern with the show being on city property and across the street from a college.

is OC Fairgrounds next? it's across the street from Orange Coast College and some show goers park in the college's parking lot to save some money...

The point is It is PUBLIC property and open to ALL Legal public/private activities, they are going to ban an event that is Legal, on public property and supported by the 1st and 2nd amendments With NO reason... Now remember the ordinance says Possession or Sale of firearms and ammunition on City Owned Property.. by text it means Not only the gun show but possession in all other public areas like the street/sidewalk... if they ban the gun show, I, as a Glendale resident/business owner, want to see ALL OTHER 1st amendment protected events Cancelled from the civic center.. and i want this city sued for all they have..

its happening all across the country.. and its a major infringement on our rights.. Google search "My city wants to ban gun shows" and in the last week, tons of cities (liberal cities) proposed gun show bans.. all proposed bans are on "Public or City Owned Property" so they cant take the gun but they can try and stop us from carrying them.. These policies will make Legal CCW carriers Criminals

I used to own a small Event company in glendale and from what I remember.. In order to have any event in Glendale, especially ones which involve the sale of goods (which require a Business lic), you need to apply for an event permit, public or private.. so they will intervene, especially since there are about 2 or 3 schools within 1000ft of the hilton..

Unless we can find a law Forbidding the city from banning a public event without just cause, we lose the Glendale Gun Show.. 3 out of 5 city members vote for the Ban.. 1 doesn't care and 1 opposes it ...
Does the city have the right to tell its people if the gun show is Illegal? no, Does the city have the authority to ban a public event without reason? no, the gun show didnt break any rules at the civic center and I think the 30 day thing they kept talking about only applies under certain circumstances.. I would like to get a copy of a Glendale Civic Aud. contract and read it..
However as i said before, the ordinance will read City Owned (public) Property, which includes streets, sidewalks, city structures, parks and more..

As a Glendale Resident I would like to thank Everyone who came out to support a childhood past time of mine, the Glendale Gun Show.. hopefully they will take my card and allow me to speak in march.. Thank you Pennys Dad and everyone else..

I've been told that the close of filing date is in two days, for the April election.

The Mayor, Friedman, and Najarian (sp?) are up and our friend Rafi M. is running for City Treasurer. I've been told, but not yet confirmed, that the Mayor is not running again.

Are you suggesting that you are interested in becoming active in the election of Glendale City Officials? If so, how many other people here are willing to get involved in the campaign?

If you or anyone else are actually interested in getting active in this venue, please notify me via email.

There isn't a separate election for mayor, only for seats on the City Council. The Council selects a member to serve as mayor.

Are you suggesting that you are interested in becoming active in the election of Glendale City Officials? If so, how many other people here are willing to get involved in the campaign?

If you or anyone else are actually interested in getting active in this venue, please notify me via email.

i would be happy to get involved in the election. i live in glendale and can organize, do house to house, you name it. i know alot of people and businesses in the city as well.

first step is we need to figure out who is running against friedman and quintero and contact them to see if they are pros or antis.

and we need to make sure najarian gets re-elected.

not only your elected officials here. but the staff behind the politicians here as well. they went along and voted for a ban that they had a personal opinion about. this is not what the people wanted. it was a personal opinion that they are putting into effect. dictatorship.

glendale has its own money to be self run. they are not dependent on more support financially or otherwise. the problem is that it is just as corrupt as any other political system or establishment in our country.

there are sheriffs and entire counties in the country that are refusing to go along with anything Obama says. they have already stated that they will outright ignore all orders of "new laws" and go along with things the way they already are. what makes this city think they are so special and victimized that they need to waste time on things like this?

I wont have much free time to commit, but I will do as I

I hated how the guy who started all this mess kept saying "it isn't about banning the show, it's about the show being on city property." Basically it IS about banning the show period point blank.
