Don't you remember those two A-holes in DC that were picking people off from the trunk of a Chevy Capri a few years ago. It's not too far fetched they'll go after bolt actions also. What's more scary than an invisible shooter. DC Snipers Btw that rifle's on my short list.

They used a bushmaster AR15.

A damn fine rifle. I was going to take mine out to to 300 yards this weekend (still very new to rifle shooting) but I broke my collarbone playing football with a bunch of people from work on Friday. Kinda difficult to shoot with only one functional arm...

I ask because one shop I spoke to told me once he had a R700 LTR with the same 5R rifling. It was black, fluted and 20" barrel with HS stock. I have the stainless 24" 5R. Congrats on your 5R.

Did you look down the barrel yourself?
It's easy to see if you know what you are looking at...

I have a 3-15 EMDR on my 5R. The Weavers are killer scopes for the money. Nightforce isn't $1200 better than what Weaver is putting out in the Tactical series. Probably helps that a lot of it is made in the same factory.

Is the barrel Black ? I thought the 5-R's were a Stainless / Silver finish.
Or is the 5-R Tactical different than a 5-R ?

Randall, how do your replacement bolt handles work on this Rifle ?

Get a knob and pm me when you are ready.
It's $45 with return shipping.
Maybe 2 weeks turn around if you ship it in.
Half hour turnaround if you schedule an appointment and come over go my shop and wait for it...

No love here.
I had a savage once.
I may still have the action in a drawer somewhere.
I don't use a savage centerfire anymore as I got into better rifles.

Why not? Is it because you're afraid of liability or are you guarding a "secret" load so you'll have some kind of competitive edge. I can kind of see the liability angle if you're working on the ragged edge of unsafe pressures but I would think a simple disclaimer would eliminate that worry.
I'll guarantee you, however, that your magic load will not necessarily shoot well out of an identical rifle. And although it is true that the 175 gr. bullet is optimal for the 5r rate of twist (11.25), there are way too many other variables to make one load universally accurate. All rifles are individuals and what works for one may not work for another. I would think most riflemen would know this.
To the OP: Nice rifle.
