Default Tossed those crappy plastic sights.

Last month I picked up a couple new handguns that came with plastic sights from the factory. Not only were they plastic but both came with very wide rear notches. Nothing wrong with a wide notch great for fast target accusation and mag dumps when needed, but one was way to wide for my liking. And since neither of these will be a carry gun I wanted a little more accuracy then speed.
The two guns are a Walther PPQ M2 .40 and a Canik 55 TP9 in 9mm. I went with the 10-8 U notch in 140, with the brass bead front in 125, for the Walther. The Canik got Dawson Precision 145 charger rear with 125 FO front. Both front sights were very easy to install, just like a Glock. The rear sights both took a little fitting, a heads up the coating used by 10-8 is very tough and will have to be filled with a diamond file or ground off before a steel file will work. But you just need to remove a little for a good fit.
Both sights are a major improvement, will shoot them next week but already digging the new sight pictures. Well worth the time and money.

Wow, really. Like these.

Or these.

Steel, poly or alloy. They all will get the Job done. But there is a reason plastic sights are unacceptable on any gun.

So that Canik is supposed to be similar to the Walther yes? How does the Canik compare to the Walther?

The Canik will not take any Walther mags, but will take the Walther sights. The Canik is a P99 clone not a PPQ clone, two different triggers. But the Canik is a good shooter, I like it.

Ah I figured if it was a p99 clone, the m1/p99 mags would work.

Dash boards are plastic. Around here they don't fair too well in the long run.

Was thinking of the exact same rear for the exact same reason for my PPQ. Wish 10-8 made them in a plain square notch though and may get a tritium sight instead of brass bead (debating between the two).

Because an object subjected to constant uv exposure is completely comparable.

Plastic dashes are fine in the sun as long as you take care of them. Raw plastic is going to suffer in the elements after a while, sure. But raw steel isn't going to fare too well either.

Oh yeah, headlights, tail lights' turn signals, valve stem caps.....all plastic. I mean, While we are comparing apples to oranges and everything. When was the last time you had a valve stem cap failure. Lmao. Hell even sway bar endlinks are plastic now.

Obviously, this has nothing to do with the OP swapping out their sights.

Although it is a P99 clone, it has a push button mag release. It is well executed, perfect size and shape as well as pressure to release.

I've bought Dawson for my PPQ but haven't installed them yet. I don't use factory sights on any gun I shoot.

I know what you mean, but I do have many guns that came with very good sights from the factory. I just don't trust plastic sights, way to easy to knock them of the slide and forget about one handed charging. S&W puts good quality strong steel sights on the M&P.

You will like the Dawson's, besides the Canik I have a set on a Glock 35 they are fantastic.

You have a great collection of pistols. I have a pair of 10-8's with the .115" FO front on an M&P, really like em'.
