Default Yugo SKS 59/66 gas tube

I bought a yugo 59/66 off of a fellow calgunner, missing a gas tube. Anyone know where I can get one in stock? Only thing I've found ar the tacticool tapco ones. Not into that at all. Buymilsurp is outta them too. Hoping someone knows some secret spot.

Is it possible to just remove the ugly plastic part from the tapco tube and install a wooden handguard or a less ugly aftermarket piece?

I don't know what all aftermarket is available and I'm not familiar with the Tapcos. I don't think it would be worth it to try and mess with anything - I'd just buy one when you find one.

I had a bubba'd yugo with a chinese tube, and it worked fine. No guarantee.

Thats what I was thinking Dieter. I heard that taking off the tapco mount doesn't work cuz of the mointing holes in it. Paul, the yugo tube has that flared end, but it still worked with the straight tube? Ive seen a few chinese tube available. Wonder if its worth a try till I can find a real yugo one.

I hadn't thought about this but since my safe was open.....

The Chinese gas tube (or any other standard tube) is a very loose fit on my 59/66. Maybe .020 short or more.

It might or might not work as I'm sure gas leakage will be significant.

The 59/66 tube is much too long to fit the Chinese...

So you might want to see if you could borrow a non 59/66 setup before you buy.

the tapco one looks neat once the handguard is off as it is ribbed and has no flange

minor fitting is required

it is not compatible with the wood as it uses pins a grooves to hold the tapco handguard

Look on eBay. Sometimes the SKS Yugo stocks come with the handguard and gas tube.
