Default What's involved in the DOJ background check for CCW?

I'm wondering what the DOJ does when they do a background check. Is it the California DOJ or the Feds? What do they do, besides a computer search? Do they talk to people, like your neighbors or co workers? What else?

I'm not worried about this, I'm squeaky clean, I had a Federal Nuclear Clearance once, but I'm really curious what DOJ does.

Anyone know for sure?

And please don't guess at it, I can do that myself.

(If this has already been answered will someone post a link?)

The carry license background check is a livescan based fingerprint background check of California and the Federal databases including a fingerprint check and NICs at the Federal level.

CGF routinely deals with CA DOJ on this process. Brandon Combs is the absolute expert, however.

Sac County does not conduct neighborhood interviews or ask for character witnesses... they outline the process pretty well on the sac county website.

DOJ does not interview your neighbors, the background investigator for the issuing agency may, it depends on the county.

I went and got a copy of my livescan just so that I could feel confident going in. it was $45 but well worth it IMO.

Great idea to get the Livescan in advance. Peace of mind is worth it...
