Wow...I was going to recommend my favorite supplier:

http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/

But I see they are OUT OF STOCK...except for Remington primers at $30.

Last time I checked at Powder Valley they have small pistol primer but in magnum version. You can use the magnum version but load min to mid powder level. If your just plinking or paper punching it'll work out. I've used magnum primers in my 9mm, 38spl, and 45acp with no problem as long as you stick with min to mid level powder load.

I think you can use small rifle primers. Same size and almost the same charge. There is a link somewhere on here.

I just got the last 2k of Federal Small Pistol Match Primers from Wideners. I think the next few months are going to make 2008 look like the "good old days".

I believe they still have some SP magnums left but I have never used these.

I also understand that you can use rifle primers but not sure about that.

It's a rerun of 1993 and 2008. Whenever the womyn elect another dem, it's a combination of panic buying and vendors keeping stock off the market. Both of which drive the price up.

MidwayUSA had 1K and 5K lots of Federal Premium Match small pistol primers today, $159 for 5K. I tried to order some and they claim they cannot ship ammo or any ammo components to San Francisco.

I don't load .40 s&w but I just checked my Speer reloading manual and unfortunately your powder is not listed. But if you do run into a recipe just load with minimum to medium powder charge.

Angry OUT OF STOCK PRIMERS

Yes, the reason seems to be all political just as before. The local gun shops and pawn shops have been three deep with people trying to buy firearms, it's a big panic. Most places like Big 5 and Wal-Mart are limiting ammo sales to 3 boxes to keep from selling out.

As for small pistol primers, I'm looking for them also as I only have a couple hundred left. I've check ALL local sources plus online and everyone is out of stock on small pistol primers. I had found one place but they wanted an arm and a leg and about $30 extra for haz-mat shipping and I don't need anything at their prices. Many common cal bullets are also out of stock. Tomorrow I'll call Angeles as they seem the last place even though it's more than an hours drive from the Antelope Valley. Sorry I don't know any other places to try but this shortage will blow over eventually. I'll also check my local source on Sunday to see what they know about when stock will come in again.

At first the ammo rationing bugged the hell out of me but now that I've seen stores sell out even with the rationing I have grown to accept it. That said I can't really help you with the missing primers but I will tell you this I talked to the tech at CCI and they told me Small Pistol Magnum and Small Rifle Primers are the same thing, the same compound and the same amount of it. IF you do go with that option though start at the very minimum powder supply and work your way up.
