Default Mag sled for AR pistol

Hey guy 2 question regarding building an AR pistol from a 80% lower.

Iíll need a magazine sled correct?

Can I use vise block like this promag?

You can make one out of wood really easy or take the WORST working 10 rd mag you have and block it to hold NO rds... Yes it has to start as a single shot shooter...

The point is to make the pistol a single shot conversion. using a fixed magazine that holds no rounds essentially makes the pistol cycle one round at a time.

you can just use the magazine without a follower, spring, end plate no? Buy a rebuild kit, don't build it, boom sled...

When I think about it, I would also start with my crapiest 10rd mag and mod it to keep any rounds from being used in it (as was mentioned before). This will technically allow me to use the bolt hold open feature that the mag gives you. maybe a rivet or epoxy a block under one of the feed lips.

You can at least have some more fun with it in the single shot config.

Let me get this right. If you're building our your own SSP from a paperweight, you still have to slap a sled in there the very first time you send the bolt home?

That sounds completely insane.

If that's the case I have a sled that came with my Franklin Armory Xo-26b. I'll loan it to builders for $0.25 a pop.

I think it has something to do with handgun registration and the home build not being on the roster.

The mag sled is necessary to make the pistol SSE compliant in order not to violate PC 32000:

Penal Code 32000 (was 12125.)
(a) Commencing January 1, 2001, any person in this state who
manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state
for sale, keeps for sale, offers or exposes for sale, gives, or lends
any unsafe handgun shall be punished by imprisonment in a county
jail not exceeding one year.

i was thinking about build an ar pistol from either a stripped lower or an 80%. i'm just getting started on the reading but from this post i'm gathering that it has to have a single shot for the first firing and then it can be converted to 10, can the gas system still operate or does it still have to be single shot?

But I thought after you put the SSS in you can put a 10 rnd mag in ...Correct ? ? how does anyone know you didnt put the sled in when you built it from the start .. ? ?

THis is the part that I get lost on...

And you have to build the lower first ? and it can not have been used for a rifle ?

Can some one lay out the steps maybe ?

Replace the spring in the 10 rounder with a block of wood that holds the follower all the way up= instant sled.

I used a vice block that had slots that held it to the mag release
