Default Which firearm manufacturer is the best all around in your opinion?

For handguns, rifles, shotguns... Which manufacturer do you think wins all around.

S&W? FN? Colt? Etc...

I would have to say th answer to this question would involve older manufacturers shoes designs have stood the test of time and whose firearms are still in use decades after design/manufacture.

Colt and S&W should be on this list because their guns won the west and because of innovative designs like the 1911 and their long contract for the M-16:

Izmash and Tula also deserve to be on this list because not only are there 200 million AK pattern rifles in use around the world today, but many of them were produced at these factories... Same as old as the 1950s are still in service!

For Europe I would say the list would need to include FN, Glock, and Sig. FN has continued to produce innovative designs throughout the 20th and 21st century. Glock revolutionized the way people think about polymer frame handguns, and Sig for their incredible DA/SA automatics.

Yes there are likely many more that belong on this list but this is just off the top of my head.

But this is a VERY OPEN ended question.
1. Quantity sold?
2. Best customer service?
3. Best resale value?
4. Highest quality?
5. Best value?

And the above 5 should relate to multiple products - rifles, handguns (semi and revolvers)... if you are to pick a best mfg.

I'd put in a vote in for Ruger - CS is outstanding, revolvers outstanding, semi-autos are a great buy (too bad they quit making the P90 and P89's). They don't always make pretty guns, but man, always a fair price for a 'own it for life' gun...

But, to vote for one company.... too broad. And yes, I'm a sucker for S&W's too.

No one answer. Just for instance, Ruger has great CS as mentioned, is a value brand, makes mostly bulletproof revolvers, but their semis are cheesy and they make a plastic revolver which weighs no less than alloy brands.

You can pick and choose from any manufacturer. None of them screw up everything every time.

Browning in the early 70's. They had the A5 shotgun, hi power pistol and bar rifle.

FN for sure. Hk is up there too.

Sw and Colt are both good.. I just dont really see anything new from them as of late so it would be hard for me to mark them towards the top.

Oh and Century for sure

You asked "all around". In my mind that would be Remington- R1911 handguns, rifles and shotguns.
Of course I am mostly a Smith & Wesson revolver guy.

Kimber and Les Baer come to mind when I think of quality. Smith and Wesson makes great revolvers too.

20% of all small arms on the planet are AK pattern rifles, no list is complete without Izmash.

Colt? Designed some great revolvers. Ever since then, Colt has just been the lowest bidder to produce other peoples designs.

Gotta go with Ruger for the 10/22 and Izmash for the AK pattern stuff. If you want to expand horizons, HK has made top notch pistols, sub guns, rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, and a plethora of cutting edge X weapons from the G11 caseless, XM8, and XM25 airburst.

I vote for FN

Thier semi shotguns IMO second to Benelli, thier handguns fnp9,40,45 and fn57, and thier Fal's, scar's, and p90 are beautiful design's.

Don't get me wrong, S&w, colt, springfields, and remington are great, but FN has some great engineering features for its day.

Or... Russian izzy, saiga 12, AK's, mosin nagant, and nagant pistol's? But I still put FN on top

Arguably, (in no order)
FN - Enough said. Besides, owning Winchester helps them.
Beretta - Making firearms since the middle ages. Besides, owning Benelli plus other former Italian competitor helps them.
HK - Possibly, one of the most, if not the most, prolific since the Cold War.
S&W - They've made everything from shotguns to revolvers to semiauto pistols and even rifles.
Remington - Yes. They've made pistols and currently making one besides shottys and rifles.

I wouldn't put Colt and Ruger in there as I don't know of a well known Colt or Ruger shotgun.

Colt or Springfield.

I like the XD, 1911, M1A, SAR-8, 1903, and others.

Colt has made a ton. Also some of the originals.
