Default Denied and Depressed

Hello CalGunners,
I'm new here but have a problem and seeking input.
When I was 19 (44 years ago) I copped some meth for a narc. I wasn't selling or using, just young stupid and trying to fit in with the wrong people. I got probation, fine, reduced felony to a misdemeanor and dismissed. Nothing else on my record.

In the last 44 years I've worked as an armed security guard, bought 3 hand guns and 2 long guns, all DOJ approved. The last purchase in July 2012 was an Escort mp sa tec2 12 ga, which was defective. So when I returned it to Big5 I had to re-DROS for the replacement, which was delayed, then just Denied 4 months later.

The lady that denied me is on vacation and I can't get a straight answer from any of the four lady annalists or the supervisor that I talked to. Something isn't right.
I get the feeling that my denial lady is inexperienced and that the others are covering for her.

I'm disabled and on low end social security. I really can't afford to hire an attorney to fix this, What can I do? Just sit here defenseless and wait for neighborhood gang bangers to break in and send me to heaven?

OK, thanks for letting me vent. potter

Not acceptable, DOJ-Firearms people.

This kind of crap happens all the time, or it used to. When I was an FFL I sold several guns to a guy, two were handguns. Then, out of the blue he gets denied on a 26” vent rib bird gun! Seems that when he was 19 he made the mistake of being extremely impolite to a nice policeman who was stuffing him in the back of a patrol car because he was drunk in public. He plead out to some sort of misdemeanor and got probation. Everything was ducky for 30 years and then some clerk at DOJ found that little land mine in his record.

I am not aware of any non-domestic violence related misdemeanor that can prohibit someone from owning firearms for 30 years.

Especially not anything that I can infer from the situation you quoted.
Sounds like it was either a felony, the DOJ was wrong, or your customer lied.

Agreed. Who cares if someone is on vacation?

These are not brain surgeons, just DOJ lackeys!

There is a lesson here: all you kids, don't cop meth for a narc.

Actions have consequences but if you are squeaky clean this can't happen.

On the other hand it might be a parking ticket, mistaken identity or something like that.

The vacationing DOJ agent is troubling so CGF is a good call.

Good luck getting this straightened out and say no to crank.

I suspect that this trend will be looked into and addressed rather quickly for a number of reasons.

Can anyone explain how someone can buy MULTIPLE firearms for decades and then all of a sudden this type of thing happens? Are older records getting put into data bases? Is it a ruse just to cause issues? A clerical error on the DOJ part? I've always wondered how the process works. With so many background checks coming in, are they just run through a computer system that is pass/fail or is there a person who actually goes through every one (probably a HUGE potential for human error and slackers). I find it all interesting as I know how effiecently the DMV, et-al, works and the screw ups I have gotten with cars I haven't owned in a long time and sent in the release of liability on......

Can the DOJ now post-review approvals already given?

My lawyer Bruce Colodny (gunlaw.com) informed me that folks who have had indiscretions in the past who needed paperwork to clear it up (like their 17b) are apparently being asked AGAIN by the state for the ORIGINAL paperwork clearing the incident and restoring rights.

I admire your optimism. I'm pretty sure copping some meth for a narc is not a prohibiting offense in this case. Good luck with completing the transfer.
