In the same condition the 91/59 without question. I have only seen four or five 91/59s but they have been pristine. Even with a M44 in better condition I would still take a 91/59 because it is a lot harder to come by.... Just my 2 cents...

91/59 unless the M44 is something rare.

In a similar situation I bought the 91/59; I've never thought I chose wrong.

I was tasked with this choice this weekend. Went to a local gun show, and a guy had a table full of m44's sitting there.... and one 91/59. Guess which I brought home. GF would of killed me if I brought two home, and he had pretty much the same selection of m44's at the last show.
Here it is with my other Mosin Nagants, '28 TULA 91/30, '42 "B" M39, '44 Izhevsk 91/59 ![]() Last edited by jthesby; 12-05-2012 at 6:43 PM.. |

91/59 for sure. I love my M38. Its kind of nice to not have the bayonet permanently attached. Though my T53's are growing on me..

I really like the 91/59 and others of that type.
The M44, while still compact, actually weights a bit more than many 91/30 rifles due to its bayonet mounting system. Weight is important to me as I carry my rifles while running the ridges. The shorter length of the M44 improves it a bit as it's not as unwieldy, but in all honesty, the bayonet is a pain. Literally, for lefties; the bayonet on the one I used to own jabbed my right thumb each time I shot! Regards, Josh |

![]() A good independent hardware store will have them in all sorts of sizes. They are cheap, grab a bunch and see what fits the best. Automotive and chain hardware stores might have them but no guarantee.

ok i will be the odd ball [ always am ]. i just think the M- 44 is way cooler looking. my romanian M-44 is a great shooter and just plain fun. in this case i will take the bling. collectors put rarity at the top of the list of reasons to have a rifle. the M 44 is the final evolution of the MN. it is better.
