Default Remington '43 1903-03-A3

I got a call from a buddy last night that came a across 03A3 that his friend wants to trade for revolver he has and wants to trade the rifle for a Beretta Bobcat 380 I have. Three-ways aren't always as advertised!

So, here is the rifle. All the parts are stamped with R except the front sight. The barrel looks like it was sanded at some point in the past 50-years. Odd thing is the RA ORD stamp was not stuck hard during manufacturing. The date is clear but only a partial A and the left side of the R can be seen.

Took the rifle apart and found a XA58 stamped on the barrel along with random proof proof marks. The inside of the barrel is bright and shinny.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Value?

2) Any suggestions where in Nor Cal I can get the barrel parkerized? Cost?

Wow looks like someone sanded the receiver and barrel. If the stock is original to the barrel, it went through Ogden fro rebuild. From looking at the date on the barrel, it should be a 2 groove. Since the bore is bright, what is the TE & MW? This would tell you barrel life left. With metal needing park and not knowing the TW & MW, I would put the value in the $350-$400 range. Just my $0.02 opinion.

Don't listen to Pro-NRA, he's probably crafting a PM as we speak, offering $300 and telling you what a big favor he is doing offering you that much!! J/K.

Yeah that is a shame some clown sanded it down, but the good thing is the stock looks absolutely cherry... and that's harder to find in my opinion. Have the bore checked and then decide if it is worth it to re-park or if the bore is worn, find a NOS barrel (they are available if you know where to look) and have an experienced smith install the barrel and park all the parts to match. You'll have a beauty of an 03-A3 that way.

If you send it to Dean at Dean's Gun Restorations, (dgrguns.com), he will make it look like new.

Listen to Brian. Complete stock can go for $250 alone. I bought a sportered SA 1903 for cheap and a replacement stock with all metal ran me $200. Yours is nicer than mine.

Funny Brian. I'm trying to liquidate some of my excess 1903s to make some of some new to me CG-63s along with my other M96 so don't need anymore.

If you come down to Sacramento, PM me and I'll gauge it for you free.

X2 on DGR. Quality work. If you want a shooter, might as well install a CBI tube from CMP for under $200.

Since it would appear it already went through a repair/rebuild I think having it reparked to as issued would enhance and not detract from its value --
That presumes the repark is with the original method and color --
I would not rebarrel unless it is really bad -- the less originality the less value --

That front sight doesn't look correct to me, everything else (sans the sanded metal) looks really nice.

Just has a snap over hood on it, they are correct for the rifle I believe

Does that front sight hood protector come pretty close to the front sight fin when you look down the sights? If there's a very good amount of space then it could be a USMC sight hood worth easily $200-280 from various online retailers - although there are a number of repros out there too.... If the hood is pretty close to the front sight fin, then it's probably just a normal sight hood which you'll probably end up removing yourself because they're kind of a pain in the *** to shoot with when it's on.

What pronra said $400 due to the sand job. Getting the bore gauged will help. If it's in good shape that helps, if not you're SOL. The 03A3 rebuilds aren't as valuable as the originals.

$700+ if that stock has not been humpped. The FJA and crossed cannon if they are real would put the stock at $400+ alone. The picture is a littl blured.

What condition is the bore in? Have it guaged for throat and muzzel wear that would be as much a selling point as the stock if good.

Getting it reparked by a pro might help the value if the bore gauges well.
