This is why I buy guns from the same places I shoot. ANy questions anyone would have I would tell them to ask the store owner. I stopped going to random ranges because the more bouncing around you do around town, the more unfamiliar faces become territorial and just stand there looking at you crazy. I've never had that issue because those old guys know whose been down range more than a few times and wont bother messing with them but if your a hipster looking son of gun, your done. Unfortunately, most people in SD do not feel comfortable breaking out the AR-AK pistols at indoor ranges around here due to soooo many LEOS in there.....makes no sense to me because most of them dont give a squat what you over there shooting because most of their guns are off roster too

I think the best response would be to smile and suggest to him that if he has some concern with you or your hardware that he should take it up with the range supervisor.

It's none of his business if you got it through SSE. You could've obtained it from PPT. You should've felt no need to explain yourself. The roster lists pistols that FFL are not allowed to sell from their inventory NOT pistols you are not allowed to buy.

"Well I can't shoot my f'ing bazooka, so what can I shoot in this state?"
Or
"Really? that sucks cuz I just found it"

Just a few responses I came up with.

Exactly!

Last summer I was shooting at a range here in CA and guy next to me asked if he could borrow a cleaning rod that was visible in my kit. Without paying much attention I said "help yourself."

I finally paid some attention and noticed he had an MKA-1919 -- the first one I had seen here in CA. I asked something in an admiring tone like "ahhh, an MKA-1919. How did you bring that guy into CA? Does it have a bullet button?"

He became testy, offensive and rude. I put my muffs back on, waved him off and turned my head. Seems like there are an inordinate number of immature, chip-on-the-shoulder type people at gun ranges these days.

So you can only scratch your junk and stare.

Would you recommend over the pants or under the pants scratching?

Sucks to meet an uninformed person at Metcalf range.

Why was the Ruger LCP on "the list"?

No smoking, but there's plenty of full ashtrays

Not sure how much you know or not, but the problem with the LCP is it is actually off "the list." The list is the "California not unsafe roster of handguns certified for sale," otherwise referred to as simply the "roster."

The LCP can't get on the roster because the rules were changed a few years ago, and now the LCP doesn't have the necessary safety features to qualify for the roster (it doesn't have a magazine disconnect). The roster restricts what handguns FFL's are allowed to sell out of dealer inventory to non-exempt individuals in CA. Face to face private party transfers and dealer consignment sales are not controlled by the roster, so off roster handguns aren't really that difficult to get.

Alot of y'all must be supermen, or have very crooked noses and fake teeth. There is no need to talk to strangers in such a rude manner, even if they are being jerks first. I would have let him shoot a mag or two. who knows, maybe he had some cool gun he'd have let you shoot afterwards.

Well said.

I am betting this clown was wearing bdu's with his pants blossomed in his boots while his wife/sister had on a dirty Nascar t-shirt and flossing with a corn cob. Every range has their village idiot. I had to leave a local range due to a random know it all.

I Love my LCP too!

Thanks for the explanation. Been out of shooting for a while and not familiar with the new handgun laws...but I'm catching up quickly! Thanks again.

You should have said "Cool, have a nice day." and gone about your business. No need to justify yourself to someone you don't know.

I regularly get "warned" at the range about my Hi-cap mags.
Without fail, someone always comments on the legality.
My reply:
"It's one of the benefits of being older, I've had these for decades."

I would have thanked him for his concern; he was only trying to help in a weird way...

Then I would have said meet me in the lobby after I finish shooting and I will explain how you can get a legal off-roster handgun.

Make a friend.

Very, very well said!

Your response was so refreshing compared to some of the crap that others suggested.

Some here clearly have absolutely no concept about what it means to act as a gentleman. You do. Thanks.

I was constantly harassed at Angeles for my SB23 stuff despite the paperwork.

Annoying old people, that need to take their meds more often and just doze off like Homer Simpsons dad.

Tell him to call Diane Feinstein!
I was told that possession of 30 round mags was a felony.
I believe it is my duty to squash misinformation and refer the ignorant to this forum.
