Default Bushmaster ORC, thoughts?

Anyone here own a Bushmaster ORC/MOE .308 or have had the chance to fondle one?

Ammo prices aside, what are your thoughts? It costs less than half of what a Scar costs, the ORC model can be found for $1000, so it is very attractively priced for a .308 evil black rifle.

Is Bushmaster quality still hit n miss?

Bushmaster offers them directly with bullet button so they MUST be CA legal.

I REALLY REALLY like how these are 16" midlength and not 16" carbine, 16" carbine barrels annoy me and are my least favorite.

The regular basic ORC model has caught my attention since I would probably end up taking off most of the Magpul **** of the MOE model and changing it to my liking anyways.

It's pretty much a DPMS copy. Expect the same quality.

I figured since this thing came out right after dpms and bushmaster became part of the same equity firm.

Very reasonably priced though.

not quite. The bushmaster is a 4150 chrome-lined barrel, whereas the DPMS is 4140 chromoly.

the Bushmaster .308 MOE is a pretty nice rifle for the pricepoint. It's no LMT or SR-25, but @ $1200-$1400 it's a good pickup considering you get the MOE stock, grip and handguard.

I came really close to buying one for $1199 from ProForce last year, and I regret not getting it ever since.

Bushmaster ORC is $1200 at my LGS

Sig 716 is $1600 street (includes quad rail, magpul stock, grips, mags)
I'd say the extras are worth a couple hundred

I just got a FDE 716 for $1750, black is $100-150 less

LWRC REPR is more like $3500

I was wanting something cheap, not $500 Vulcan cheap but something that isn't over $1500. IF you look close enough a Bushmaster ORC can be found in the $1000 range.

What kind of accuracy can you expect out of one of these or a dpms?

Ive also been looking at one of those. About 2 pounds heavier though and doesn't use Ar10 mags.

The MOE looks very nice. Three questions that I haven't been able to find using search on various forums:
1. Does this use Commericial or Mil-Spec receiver extension?
2. What is the barrel profile: heavy, pencil, what?
3. Is there a problem that prevents regular AR-10 free float tubes or rails from being used?

Not sure why you'd want to pinch pennies on an AR10 with ammo being as expensive as it is. The gun is cheap, shooting it isn't.

I just picked mine up from Turner's, it's nice for the money. I compared it to the DPMS LR308, the Anderson Arms 308 18" and the Sig 716 Patrolman. Although I fell in love with the Sig, I hated the price of $2200. For $1200 bucks, it's a great entry level AR 308 over the DPMS which is really heavy and the Anderson which is heavier and not worth the $300 higher price. I plan on taking it out as soon as I can find some ammo, lol.
