Thumbs up $550 AR

I needed to get a beater AR for others to use on range trips... I wanted to go as cheap as possible and ended up getting this:

PSA Upper $295 shipped http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...day-upper.html

New Frontier Poly Lower from Rifle Gear $102.45 (including tax) after using Gearhog coupon: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=648761 link to receiver: http://www.riflegear.com/p-1388-new-...mer-lower.aspx

Danial Defense BCG from AlphaOps $160.95 shipped after using code: calgunner (from this thread) http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=614864 link to BCG: http://www.alphaops.com/product_info...77l43910i9eu45

I have an extra charging handle, so I'll use it - but SKD has 13% off today if you want a BCM short (add $40 to build)... also, SKD has free shipping with $69+ purchase (add a Blue Force Gear sling $35)

And for the helluvit - an Aimpoint Pro $360 shipped from Sickguns sale thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=648616

So if you already have a charging handle, this AR costs $543.39 otd... (add $15 for standard charging handle) or have the rifle with BCM charging handle, a Blue Force Gear sling and an Aimpoint Pro RDS for $978!

Damn! I wish I would have posted this thread before I bought everything - I looked and looked and couldn't find any BCG in stock for decent pricing... Good find!

yep, good call - I have extra BB and a fixed rear sights... but there are several sales today for folding sights (I guess I'll have to go look for another deal )

I also wish I had waited on the Aimpoint... PSA has Comp M2 for $350! http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...m_medium=email

So now someone can build a better and cheaper Cyber Monday AR.

Nice, you should post this in the centerfire section.

I like the idea of a range beater spare rifle for friends to shoot. Don't think I'd be able to leave it alone though. Would probably turn into a $1200+ rifle when finished!

The New Frontier Armory lowers come complete with the LPK installed and a stock assembly. They are ready to go (minus bullet button) once you get them.

the one I listed is a complete lower... it can be done for about $35 cheaper by doing stripped lower and kit...

Initially I was just going to post the parts I got - but I should have posted the options available and added the other sales as people chime in...

I think there's enough info throughout the thread for others to build a cheap AR though. In some cases better and cheaper than what I posted...

Considering Jan starts registration - today is a good time to get everything while on sale

LOL! That's what happened with my last AR - that's why I'm getting this beater... somehow I think it's gonna end up like you stated

before I make another purchase for my Cyber Monday beater - I figured I'd ask if you guys have better deal...

I need another Blue Force Gear sling (was gonna buy one anyway)... SKD has 13% off with free shipping over $69... I'm also think of getting folding rear sight (instead of the fixed sight I have laying around)...

So - Magpul MBUS seems like a cheap alternative and keeps the plastic theme of this rifle going... typically I'd go Troy (it's what I use on other rifle) - but this is cheap/beater/plastic...

SKD has 'em for $56 + $40 for sling minus 13% = $83.xx shipped... anyone have a better/cheaper alternative? (for the sight, not the sling)

Nice job on the uber budget AR!

Actually they have a $250 upper..

Add in a $110 for poly New Frontier complete lower.,,

Add in a $60 for a rear sight, $100 for a bcg and $15 for a CH..

I bet you could build an AR under $500 if you shopped for deals and used all the free shipping coupons and no-tax deals..

I just bought one of the $280 uppers.. going to build a featureless using one of my 80% lowers and some extra parts I have laying about.

Currently building a rifle that is very cheap so far. Not going complete budget but going relatively cheap, also saved about $100 by having spare parts.

PSA stripped lower ($100 when I bought two of them for the calguns special at turners)
PSA MOE LPK ($49.99
Stock, buffer tube, spring, and weight. (Free lying around)
PSA black friday A2 middy deal ($279.99)
PSA charging handle (~$16)
Troy folding BUIS ($79.99 at primary arms)
Total shipping (~$25)

So far I'm in it about $550, still need a BCG. Could have easily knocked it down to below $500 so far had I went with the carbine length M4 deal at psa ($250, save ~$30), skipped on the MOE LPK for a "classic" one (save $10-15), went with a cheaper rear sight (fixed troys or the MBUS, save ~$30), and gone with a cheap poly lower (save ~$30+). If I went with that $95 BCG listed above the rifle would have come out at almost exactly $500, figure another $50-100 if I didn't have the buffer assembly sitting around. So someone could have easily built an AR15 for ~$550 otd, figure about $600 if they went with a non-poly lower.

I do have solace in the fact that it's good gear... but too good for my budget-minded beater Oh well...

as a couple of others have said - if someone really focused on the best deals yesterday and took advantage of the sales, a sub $500 AR was possible...
