Default New Backup knife

OK Cal Gunners. We are here to ask your opinion. Below are three "Kneck
Knives" currently in a bit of Testing and Evaluation by Dark Sky Solutions.
All three of these knives are between 4"-5" in length and have been produced
in G10. G10 is a glass-reinforced epoxy laminate. These knives are as a
backup knife and are (in their current design) undetectable by metal
detectors. Future Designs will be CA Compliant with metalic fittings in the
handle to be in Compliance with PC 12001.1.

Please let us know what you think of the design. Obviously the color of the
550 cord can be customized , changed or just no present. Kydex Sheaths are a
possibility if there is enough interest.

Please let us know what you think.

Price point on these knives is going to be right around $60 each with a discount for purchasing 3 the set or 3 or more.

Lol, actually put in an order today for some "alternate" colors. Thinking maybe a FDE/OD combo. We shall see.

I would probably buy one if they come with a kydex sheath. They look great.

They will end up having a kydex sheath available. Looking right now at adding that as an option for a few bucks more. How does everyone feel about that? Should well sell them without the sheath and have it as an option or should we just include it and raise the price accordingly?

I have been getting a lot of PMs concerning these puppies.

We don't currently have them in production but, from the responses we have received here and a few other forums we are moving into production. Materials have been ordered ad production will start shortly. Subscribe to this thread so you know wen we have them for sale and keep the comments coming.

OK, I have to ask; what is the benefit to an epoxy knife? Is it sharp; can it be resharpened; how durable is the blade? Why should someone buy this over say, a Becker Necker or Esee Izula?

Respectfully,
Rob

Respectfully,
Rob
Rob,

All great questions. A knife made out of G10 has the benefit of weight reduction. Ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. These back up knives are all weighing in at less than an ounce once we add the metallic grommet to them to be in compliance with CAPC it should be weighing in right at 1 oz.

These blades are designed as a extreme light weight back up option for an emergency. These blades have kept a good sharpening during use and can be touched up easily if dulled. They are another tool to use and as with everything they have their place and purpose.

Thank you for your questions

Hi everyone, my name is Eric and I'm the shaper of these blades. I have been working with DSS on the designs and am just waiting for a shipment of G10 to arrive to start knocking them out. These knives are 1/4 thick and 5" long. As far as kydex goes my design thus far is a straight forward taco style setup for neck carry. I am working out something for small of the back as well (i believe this would work well as these are small and light). I also make traditional metal knives out of 1094 and 5160. If anyone has anything specific they are looking for let me know

I will definitely take one! With the right sheath, it will work well as a backup or a main knife for my diving setup. Please send me purchase info!!

Just got a small shipment in of the G10. EB is gonna start on a few sets of them to start selling. $60 each or $150 for the set including shipping within the US. PM orders for payment details. Can accept Paypal, CC and cash or USPS money order.

I really like the one on the far right. I would go for that one. I have an actual carbon fiber knife nearly just like that. Any idea how yours will hold any sort of edge? $60 seems a bit pricey IMHO since your soliciting feedback.

A horizontal belt carry would be a great option also.
Thanks!

All,

I apologize about the lack of communication and or replies to PMs.

Unfortunately this back up knife is on hold. My shaper is now leaving the area for service in the military. Once he returns these will be the first thing on the production list.

Here is a little teaser of what is to come.
