Default "New" Zastava M70, .308

Zastava M70
.308
20 inch barrel
$439 from Century Arms

K98 receiver, side safety. Nice bluing, decent wood with a nice grain. Wood could use a little more finish. Flip up rear sight. Pre drilled for scope (FN Mauser holes). All metal parts, magazine blocked for .308. Trigger isn't butter smooth breaks around 4lbs. Not bad though. I like the rifle so far as it is, especially the for the price. I mounted the steel one piece base. Sight can still be used with base mounted so they can be used as BUS. I'll use Warne QR mounts.

Seen these before as Charles Daly, Rem 798, etc.. Ill report more after shooting.

Iron sights, Mannlicher stock, 308... and just $440? Sounds like a decent deal to me!

Did you buy directly from Century and transfer, or did you have a local dealer order it for you?

Thanks!

Bought direct from Century. Had it shipped an FFL. My guy doesn't charge hardly anything so it's $439 plus tax and dros. Even with a a dealer fee it be under $525. Can't beat that.

They've got em in .30-06, .270, some calipers haven't come in yet.

Yes look under hunting or firearms/all long guns/bolt action. Read the heading for each rifle, they don't have the picture for the Mannlicher stocks.

What base is that? what other bases fit? what model should I look for for the scope bases, Mauser ?
Any other reports? How many rounds have you put through it and how does it group? Has the trigger/sear worn in better?
I want to find the .308 Mannlicher, I wrote Zastava, they have a Mannlicher LKM98 in .308 with double set trigger (that would drop your 4# down to 3.2#) but not available in USA and probably $200 more.

I will settle for the m70 .308 Mannlicher stock, just waiting for my FLL to track one down and get back to me. I have a lot of .308 loaded up just waiting. I just reloaded some H4895 youth loads in .308 and .30-06. Just sold my 10FCM model Savage Scout because I didn't like the stock (pre accustock, but post accutrigger, figures I always have bad timing, especially after waiting 10 years to get that one even to get the accutrigger).

Edit, Oh never mind, I see you wrote Mauser scope base measurements.
what style safety does it have? Can you post a picture of the action and bolt and safety?

Ill post pics soon.
The safety is a side two position safety. Not the original mauser one but more conducive to scope mounting. It's sold, easily clicks into position.

Very happy with it. Shoots about an inch with crappy ammo. Should be able to dial it in tighter with more custom loads. Heats up quick so that slows down my shooting.

Trigger a bit tight and heavier than I like but that'll be a little trigger work. not expensive. By smith says around $50.

Heck of a deal! These have been around for years, previously as the Interarms MkX mauser.

I have one ordered through my FFL, then the 10 day wait, already got 2 piece millet bases and rings and a nice leather sling waiting.

If anyone knows how to get a scout scope base onto one of these please post info. I will get a rear peep for it if i do. then i won't have to buy another savage to replace the one i sold, will sell the savage mags and other scout scope if i can get the mannlicher in the scout configuration. don't care if it will look stupid which it just may.

thanks elSquid, when i get it i will do measurements acc to XSsights and see if it will work. do you have a scout setup? i have a .22 and .300whisper AR setup. pretty handy. i liked my savage .308 but it did not have the new accustock, if i can get this mannlicher set up then i won't be replacing the savage

Yup. I also have a Savage Scout, a Ruger Frontier ( semi-scout ), and all the XS gear to make my Marlin 336 into a pseudo-scout. I might also buy a Ruger GSR....

well, started my 10 day yesterday. the wood is nice but the checkering is horrid. i will have to linseed oil the stock, it seems it was barely finished, which is fine, i have good luck working on just oiled stocks, thought about re doing the checkering but i will just leave it alone or sand them out and away. the action is tight, i don't like the weird bottom drop magazine floorplate release, it is in the trigger guard and looks like a safety. the safety is a lever forward fire rear safe position, it does not lock the bolt. it does not have built in sling swivels like their catalog shows, it has sling studs (as pictured above from OP) which i can live with, i just found some spare swivels laying around. and the front sight was pushed way left of center. the buttpad and pistol grip cap are a nice touch. now to find a nice small scope. i still have high hopes for this rifle for decent accuracy.

I have the Model 70 in 458 Win mag, the triggers are usually pretty nice on these. That is a Monte Carlo stock, not a European style stock.

You can use Interarms Mauser, Charles Daly Mauser or Rem 798 scope mounts

Right on about the wood. Mine has a nice grain but it isn't finished like it should, but crap for the price... awesome. Im getting about an inch on the first 3-6 shots after that its at around 1.5 inches. he barrel heats up pretty quick.

Yeah thanks for the input, I will be taking it to the range soon but will just use the iron sights, the Millett rear mount i got had very short screws or was not drilled deep enough, there are only 2 threads sticking out the bottom, the front is fine and secure, I called Millett (now Bushnell) and they will send me a replacement soon. I don't want to risk blowing my scope off or ruining the threads. I pushed that front sight to the RT, I guess I will try to bore sight it tonite to see if it is close. The sight I got is just the cheap Barska 1.5-4.5x30mm, it is clear and beefy, the rings that it came w/ are tall but they allow me to see the irons. I may go lower w/ quick release, but for now it gtg. I want to get some kind of neoprene cover to protect the stock but yeah for the price if it gets dinged up a bit i won't be crying over it. I have a lot of reloads to try so i will be breaking in the bbl this weekend. The trigger is good and i greased the bolt and working it so it is getting a bit smoother actually.
