Default Free float handguard Noob. RRA any good?

My friend wants a free float handguard for his midlength AR15, and I want to surprise him with one for Christmas. His rifle his a midlength gas system with a front post sight. So I am looking for a midlength free float handguard around or under $100!

I saw the RRA tubes that look pretty good. Any insight? Are they pretty heavy? http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.c...ategory_id=309

What other brands should I be looking at for around or under $100? I am trying to keep it lightweight for him as well.

Also, what other components will I need to get him to install the handguard? Is a barrel nut or anything else needed?

One last thing, it is possible to install it without taking off the front sight post?

Some options for you:
-Model1Sales. (midway sells them from $35-55) very similar to the RRA handguards, minus the grip around the tube.
-DPMS. Very similar to the Model1Sale's free float, but for a few extra bucks.
-Hogue. Similar to the RRA handguard, but has an overmolded exterior that adds to superior grip ability.

Have you looked at any of the Yankee Hill handguards? If you find them on sale you can normally pick them up for under $100. I paid $89 for a specter length one last week.

I have a YHM customizable hand guard on my rifle. Its the type that is just a plain tube, but has threaded holes for rail sections.

It's pretty nice since you can make how you want so you aren't stuck with a plain tube if you want to add stuff, and fairly lightweight compared to models with rails built in(and more comfortable).

Here is what it would look like, but apparently they don't make midlength, my bad!

http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=p...products_id=95

Found this searching, on sale to almost your budget:

EDIT:

Here are a few midlength handguards, in a variety of styles. Any that say free float are what you want.
