First rimfire, Ruger 10/22, what else? Love to shoot this thing but the mag release is awfully sticky. Using factory 10 rnd mags. When I push the release, I need to either pinch and wiggle the thing out (very annoying and frustrating) or reach into the chamber and poke it out with my finger. Both very awkward.
Is this typical? Is there a upgrade to fix this? Thanks all! |

See above if it is a Nylon stock. There is a ridge on the inside of mold were the mag goes in. Sand with some 600, then wet sand with the same. Should solve the problem. Also the
clear mags stick more than the black ones. Here is the good news, over time the problem will be less. Mine use to stick, but now just drop out. Best solution, shoot alot!!! have fun. |

I noticed that when my Ruger is immaculately clean, the mags just drop free. When it's dirty the mags just sit in the slot after I hit the release. When the happens I just put my finger into the depression just ahead of the mag slot.
So, I'm thinking a good cleaning, both of receiver and mags may fix your prob.

Both of my 10-22s are old enough that I fitted (very easy) an aftermarket extended mag release---the mags literally fall out. Something (probably the stock itself) is preventing the mag from dropping free.

On my Razor 22WMR, if I hold the rifle up at a 45 degree angle, the mags drop right out. If held level or muzzle down, I have to coax them a bit! They might be weight biased differently than a 22LR.
Check the magwell (stock, actually) for any rubbing or interference. Also check the mag for excess molding flash. Not a problem to dress it a bit. You want it to drop out easily! Robert Last edited by tanakasan; 11-25-2012 at 6:24 PM.. |

Performed exactly the same on two different stocks - Tapco and walnut Yukon Extreme. Stock does not seem to interfere at all. Also, it's clean! Unless I'm missing spots. Lever moves freely also.
Once it starts, it moves right out, but it doesn't budge at all by just moving the release lever. |

Never used one but, this magazine release seems interesting. By using a new pivot design it changes the direction you pull the lever.

OP Volquartsen Extended Mag. Release works great, no fumbling with the Mag. Even BETTER is Volq. Bolt release, highly recommend BOTH parts, it`ll make Shooting a lot more FUN! Approx 25$ for both & worth every penny...
Agree on the Cleaning!!! Guns Cycle/Perform better when Clean. |

If you get one of these, and buy 3 Ruger 10 rounders, it will negate that problem. And you'll have 30 rounds available at a twist of the wrist. Google "TriMag".

i love my tac sol mag release on my 10/22 - I did file down the burrs/snags from the polymer mold stock from ATI before I did the new mag release.
as others have stated check your mag fit first, then decide what is best to do. I also did the volquerston deluxe 10/22 upgrade kit and the trigger pull is so much better now ![]()

Also, I notice that they don't drop free as well when the gun is getting warm after the 200th round.
