Default AR-15 Carry Bag

I am looking to get a bag for my new AR-15, I have found ones that hold the full length rifle and has pouches for the mags. Lots out there to choose from and to be honest I thought the one at Wally World for 25 bucks looked decent.

The thing is I don't know that I want a full size bag like the ones I've seen, how about a bag that carries it broke down. I figure it only takes a few seconds to attach the lower to the upper and it is much more compact. Is there bags designed for that or do I just come up with one. It would only need to be about 26" long.

Does anyone transport theirs broke down? I just think it would be much easier.

So I should have researched before I asked. I see there are a few cases designed for this, here is one that sells for about forty bucks.

I'd rather own a full size one. If you go that route go with the Voodoo Tactical 36" that holds two AR's and 2 pistols and all that jazz. That broken down bag you posted is interesting though...

I have the bulldog in coyote tan and love it. I love keeping the upper and lower separate as a safety precaution. I sewed in my own straps to keep the parts from wiggling around.

I'm thinking I would like the more compact size, plus less likely people will even know what is in it.

The CountyComm XL Sat-Com bag fits my broken down AR just fine. I get a few boxes of ammo in the pockets also.

I like it, doesn't look like it has much padding though. Does it offer much protection if it is bumped or dropped?

I got this one, only 29 bucks and holds a disassembled M4, mags etc etc.

Plenty of straps to cinch everything in place. Has three mag pockets too.

Do you have other rifles you want to carry to the range instead of/in addition to the AR? If so, I would suggest going with a full size case that can also accomodate the length your other rifle. I went with the the VooDoo Tactical double rifle case so I can carry a 20" AR, my SKS, or my bolt action .22. It also holds two pistols and has pockets for ammo, hearing protection, extra mags or whatever I need to take to the range.

You're right, it's not well padded. I usually wrap them in a gun sock.

This one is expensive but I have a couple friends who use them and seem to really like them.

That's exactly what I use. Holds an AR and a Shotty plus my 1911 ammo and some other crap.

If you decide to go with a full-length Voodoo, check out this thread for great pricing:

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=637205

I just ordered one a couple of hours ago. You might want to check out my post on page two of that thread to see the coupon code I used.

Thanks for all the suggestions, really like the Larue but it is pricey. I had looked at the Voodoo Tactical, thought it would be cool since I have a Voodoo barrel, and I might pick one up just to have a full length in addition to a covert.

I use the condor discrete take down case, room enough for a 16" upper with a good size break a scope and iat one point I had a forward pistol grip, tight for but went in none the less, one big pocket across the front with loops for mags inside, and tuck away backpack type straps, also has a mesh to help airflow on you back when you have it on you back. No one would ever know you have a rifle in it.

I have this one for my 22LR and also two of the 32" ones for assembled ARs. Its a squeeze, but a 30-1/2" OAL rifle will fit. Fairly thick padding and very nice zippers. Not a heavy duty drag bag, but will keep your rifle and optics from getting dinged.

This shorty, at 26", holds the upper and lower easily. Unlike the Bulldog, it has molle straps inside for securing. The side pocket is great for mags and spare parts. It has 3 mag pockets and some elastic bands inside.

The price and Amazon return policy were the clinchers. Use the CGN Amazon link and help out while protecting your rifle.

I wish someone made a hard takedown case. One which is airline approved, preferably. For not more than $200.

I have one from Midway and I like this bag a lot. I got the 43" olive drab one for my 16" M4 clone. I'm sure the 35" would work too, but I prefer more room for my other longer barrel rifles or other stuff. It goes on sale occasionally for I think $35 to $40.

Here's a picture of the AR15.com discreet takedown soft case. It's supposed to be able to fit at least a 16" upper but I'm trying it out here with just a 7.5" pistol completely assembled with an optic.

That ARFCOM case is sweet! Love the three rows of molle! Going to look into that.

Is it black or chocolate brown?

It's black, but the lighting in that room makes it look brown.

Another vote for the Bulldog Case. I have a couple of them and the LaRue. I prefer the Bulldog as it is the most discreet and very simple to use when compared to the LaRue which can sometimes be jigsaw puzzle trying to fit it all in there. Plus they are built very well and not hard on the wallet.

doesn't look like there are any securement straps... that's the one thing lacking in the two I'm considering (even the as slipknot said, the condor has elastic bands)
