Default Saiga Setups - Lets See Them

So, I have a converted Saiga rifle but I'm looking to make a few changes. Already have a setup/parts in mind but it isn't ideal (for me) and I'd like to see how everyone has their Saiga setup, maybe I'll see something I'd like more or learn something new.

Also, if anyone knows of any parts for the following, please share:
- Old CAA buffer tube has died but it didn't work very well with my particular Saiga. Need a new mounting option (currently using original stock), preferably one that can take a commercial spec buffer tube.
- Would like to mount a Vortex Sparc over the gas tube, have found that side mounting in general is not ideal for me. Would like to keep the stock Saiga hand guard if possible (functional, lightweight, comfortable w/o all the excessive rails).

And Pictures NOW!

Just picked mine up. The receiver and other parts appear to be painted....
Considering stripping the thing, protecting the barrel and scraping that ugly paint off (on the bolt carrier, REALLY?!?!.... ) and blueing the gun.

Thoughts anyone?

um, yeah, they are all like that.
Dont molest it any further. I dont think i have ever head of a blued ak for that matter. I think they are painted by the same 10 yr old kids that shoot them in third world countries

Yeah

Too bad....
I wanted all original action and barrel that I could reconfigure, so this was the only option.
While visiting a friend in a state east of the Iron Curtain, I had a chance to handle and shoot a pristine condition PolyTech underfolder.
Changed my paradigm of "made in China". The Saiga reinforces that shift.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy to have one and look forward to getting one in .223 as a back up to my mini14

What I'd like to hear about from others, though, is if I need to drill out and punch out rivets and strip the gun to parts or if it's feasible to blue the thing with just the firing group taken out.

I failed to state that the Poly was nicely blued.

I kept it simple and cheap. I have added a forward grip to it though.

paint stripper works well. hell, even brake cleaner will remove that craptastic paint. Ive never applied hot bluing before, but from what I know, its preferable to remove all the parts. god luck.

Tapco G2, IWD Combloc Customs furniture, featureless wrap. Added feed ramp and non-neutered FSB (butterfly one I had laying around) & GB (KVAR), and changed lower handguard retainer to non-screw type. Mine's one of the older ones that came with a 20"+ barrel. Thinking of adding a Tabuk flash hider and then perhaps a POSP 8x42, but with the flash hider, I then cannot run featureless...

Comments welcomed.

I would personally leave the rifle as you have it, it kinda looks like a RPK. Really cool rifle.

[QUOTE=victorr;9843536]...cannot run featureless...

man... there M U S T be a more elegant alternative to that grip wrap......

As an aside, can someone explain the main changes Tromix makes to the Tapco G2 and how that translates to function?

Be gentle, it's my first technical question....

So what would you recommend as a finish when one does the triggerguard and FCG conversion.

How would you finish the bottom of the receiver and the triggerguard plate?

great pics guys. i was just about to give up on the thread too... i just finished adjusting my saiga conversion. a little bit mall ninja but it's so much easier for me to use right now.

victorr i really like that furniture. do you have any other pictures of it (or closer up)? also which one of their "colors" was it? im liking the "rust" but they don't show it mounted on anything for reference.

i was thinking of doing something like that with a 5.45 except with an ultimak gas tube on top, not sure if the bands holding the tube on would work with most wood hand guards though, i always see ultimaks on polymer handguards similar to the arsenal or kvar ones. not sure if its just the type of people/setups using ultimaks or b/c there is some technical limitation.

Tapco Intrafuse Hand Guard, UTG Side Mount, Bushnell TRS-25.

Upgrades in the mail are bullet guide for AK mags, Dinzag Trigger(to retain sporter stock), and Tapco Piston. 922r plus the ability to use AK mags without a mag lock is priceless. I managed to order 5 Tapco rebuild kits for 6.99 before the madness went down.
