Default Camarillo Acorn

Anti-gun FUD and half-***** reporting.

I read something today in a small local newspaper that really pissed me off. Below is a copy of my email I sent to the editor, and also a picture of what I read.
The first link below is an online version, if you want to read the article.

Quote:
Regarding "New year, brings new laws", Jan 3rd, 2014.
http://www.thecamarilloacorn.com/new..._new_laws.html

#1. SB-396 did NOT pass. It is NOT law.
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/13-14/...30_status.html

Also note that some sections of AB-48 is also dependent upon the passing of SB-396, so parts of AB-48 is NOT law.

#2. SB-374 was vetoed by the Gov. It is NOT law.
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/13-14/...30_status.html

#3. What is a "clip"? Hair clip? Chip clip? Paper clip?
Despite Hollywood slang, the proper term is magazine. Only 2 forms of "clips" exist for firearms, a "stripper clip" and an "Embloc clip", neither of which hold more than 10 rounds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kS8GzWl78g

#4. I also take some issue with your statements regarding ownership and sales of magazines. There are exceptions and specifics to these laws, and your "blanket" statements are factually incorrect.

Please educate yourself. Being a small local "newspaper" is not an excuse for ignorance and false information.

WOW!!! Mind blown!

My message to camarillo@theacorn.com; belmond@theacorn.com Attn-Editor: Daniel Wolowicz and Author: Sylvie Belmond:
Quote:
Subject - Correction Needed re: New year brings new laws Guns, wages, plastic bags and schools make list By Sylvie Belmond

The Camarillo Acorn
Attn: Daniel Wolowicz and Sylvie Belmond

The article titled "New year brings new laws: Guns, wages, plastic bags and schools make list" By Sylvie Belmond is in need of serious corrections as it relates to "Gun laws". Of the eight (8) bills listed in your article, two (2) were NOT chaptered into law at all (SB 374 and SB 396). More incorrect facts are cited throughout.

The following bills are the only ones related to gun control signed into law by the governor this session:
• AB 48 by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley)
• AB 170 by Assemblymember Steven Bradford (D-Gardena)
• AB 231 by Assemblymember Philip Y. Ting (D-San Francisco)
• AB 500 by Assemblymember Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco)
• AB 538 by Assemblymember Richard Pan (D-Sacramento)
• AB 539 by Assemblymember Richard Pan (D-Sacramento)
• AB 711 by Assemblymember Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood)
• AB 1131 by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley)
• SB 127 by Senator Ted Gaines (R-Rocklin)
• SB 363 by Senator Roderick D. Wright (D-Los Angeles)
• SB 683 by Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego)

The next set of bills listed were passed by the legislature and VETOED by the Governor:
• AB 169 by Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento)
• AB 180 by Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Alameda)
• SB 299 by Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord)
• SB 374 by Senator Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento)
• SB 475 by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco)
• SB 567 by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara)
• SB 755 by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis)

In addition SB 396 failed to pass the Senate. AB 809 does NOT relate to "passing a safety test, mirroring the requirements for a person buying a pistol." That requirement was actually set by SB 683 and does not go into effect until January 1st 2015

If this paper's integrity and respect is to be at all upheld, I ask that you recheck your facts and issue retractions immediately (both electronically and in print) of the erroneous information posted and I assume printed.

Firearms laws are voluminous and confusing, posting bad information in this area of law can and will get people in deep trouble and helps to spread the stigma of guns and gun owners, one of the rights protected by the Constitution of the United States by the way.

If you or your staff need help fact checking future stories relating to firearms, I would be happy to help as best I can. Also, I would like to personally invite you and any of your staff to join me gratis for an hour or two of safe, fun, recreational shooting.

Respectfully,
readysetgo
ALL you locals need to hit these guys up about this. Imagine the time it would take to unravel the brain twist in someone reading this who is unknowledgable about the subject. I'm guessing at least one hour per individual to unmindscrew.

I Cross posted in the CA 2A forum: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=875895

Another post with same reporting from the Simi Acorn: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=875651

"The Acorn" probably published this in Simi, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo and Moorpark versions. http://www.theacornonline.com/

Very well said Ready. I'm happy to see someone else cares.

You are a great asset to the fight for our 2a rights here in CA and to the local community.

Keep up the fight. Let's make some noise.

Except, I'm getting flamed over in CA 2A. Hahahaha. Oh well, I'll just spend the next freakin six months unexplaining this malarkey to people. Wash, rinse, repeat and at some point kick the bucket.

PS, it's in all the versions of the acorn, countywide.

So I walk into work after a 2 week shutdown, saying hello to people, the 10th person I run into says...

Him: "Hey ready, July, no more mags!"
Me: "WTF did you just say? Where did you hear that?"
Him: "My buddy just text me."
Me: "Ask him where he heard that. There was a bunch of BS in the Acorn about this, don't lead the question to your buddy though."

Later...
Him: "Buddy saw it in the Acorn AND heard it on talk radio 640AM."
Me: :triple facepalm:

So I'm guessing these lame reports are coming from a "source" that these so called reporters are just parroting (the gleam mentioned as much in the CA 2A thread).

The Acorn has edited the story on all their sites as of 1430. IT'S STILL WRONG. They're still saying
Quote:
As of Jan. 1, AB 809 requires anyone who buys a rifle or shotgun to register it and pass a safety test, mirroring the requirements for a person buying a pistol. Legislators approved the law in 2011.
Let's keep our eyes out for a retraction in the next paper. Anything less is a slap in the face to whatever journalistic integrity they think they have.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. People who don't know any better get their information from unreliable sources (aka, the Acorn or some other half-***** piece of so-called journalism)...

Hell, it's hard enough to follow when we get it straight from the legislators themselves and by reading their mind-f##k bills.

Thanks, saw it. That'll have to do. They didn't acknowledge the fact that "safety tests" are not required for long guns this year but, whatever.

At least they printed something...

It's more than I can say for the "mainstream media", they blatantly lie and even manufacture information, and do nothing about it but more of the same... They must have taken some pages from a gov't playbook.

Yeah, it's basically garbage. I only read it in passing. It just happens I read it on the day they printed this trash.

I read the TO Acorn to check out the police blotter.

Pretty funny they had a full front page article on the gender-identity LAW... a little late don't you think? What the hell were they doing while that was still a bill and our state reps could have been contacted BEFORE it passed.

For or against, after-the-fact reporting on things like that is, wtf?
