How long did it take to get that Coonan receiver? I've been hearing 2 months lead time.

About 6 weeks two months ago. May have even been longer ago, been procrastinating this build.

Woody?

They usually do go together smoothly and you'll love her when you're finished.

Email if you have any more questions, and keep spending time on the FAL Files.

OT...Which Cessna?

I'm at 2 months right now and mine has not shipped from Coonan yet.

It is a bit different than "building" an AR.

it is much different than building an AR. I still need to headspace my rifle.

As they sit currently...

And the new project

Would anyone here be willing to show me how to headspace the rifle?

I'd be in for a build party also. I have a set of headspace guages and a lathe in the Sac area but would be willing to drive to santa rosa just for the fun of building with some fellow FAL fans.

You can do it your self very easily. I used a Go-Guage and Plastigauge (green IIRC) between the locking shoulder and the bolt. Here is a good video to give you a idea on how it works: http://youtu.be/APmmOIL-CcQ

For timing your barrel you need a very long torque wrench, crows foot wrench. 5" sanding disk (coarse/medium/fine), a big vice and receiver blocks. Use the sanding disk facing the front of the barrel, snug the barrel up a little, then start turning the sanding disk to remove the barrel mounting land material. Use coarse, medium, fine as needed. Stop often to check fit and alignment. If anyone has any questions pm me...

I would be in to learn. I have everything but still waiting on my Coonan to arrive.

I did two builds about 10 years ago on a DSA / STG kit and the hardest part was that central plug that fits into the receiver than holds the ejector block and bolt release. If I remember correctly it acts as part of the locking mechanism that the carrier drops into to form the "titling breach lock". It's a real PITA tolerance wise.

I spent a lot of time filing for some close tolerances, and a lot of help from ARS.

I know this is a kinda old thread, but I just got an Imbel kit and starting to do the research on a build. Wondering if anyone from the original build still has the tooling and such and could help on a build down the road?

Would help to know generally where you're located.

Oh whoops, I'm in San Francisco, but I'd be willing to travel 2 hours to work on this thing. Of course it'll be a couple months because I don't even have the money for a receiver yet.
