Okay lets see those AK-74's and Saiga's. I don't want a bullet button so will keep as is. As for optics, I prefer Iron sights.

This will be the before picture, as it's going to get an AK 105 make-over.
US parts are hammer, disconnector, mag base plate, and mag follower.

I decided to revive this thread to show off my first AK:

Century Arms AK74 on NDS-2 Receiver with Bulgarian Parts.

This is my first AK. I arranged the purchase from Centerfire Systems through Quentin Laser, who installed a BB and disassembled the 3 mags that came with it. Mag in the photo is just a body, no internals. I have some 10 rd mags on the way.

Total price was about $520 including DROS and transfer, just over budget but acceptable. I don't really know what to look for, but it seems pretty well built, I can't see any canting of the FSB, bolt and carrier don't match, FCG is Tapco, stock is Tapco.

Next is some nice wood. Any advice?

Here's the pics:

Yep. I'm thinking about pulling that barrel off for my newly aquired 5.45 "Krink" kit and replacing it with a 105 barrel assembly.

For wood, go with Bulgarian, just like my second pic above. I stripped off the brown varnish(?) and applied a few coats of Tung Oil. Just remember to comply with 922r. I think the Century AK 74's have these US parts:
Receiver
Barrel
Trigger
Hammer
Disconnector
Pistol grip
Butt Stock
Forend

Thanks, I found some at Apex for $25, looks like they need refinishing but will do the job well. What are the easiest parts to swap out for 922r compliance? I'd like to be able to use imported mags, so what are my options?

Ok here's my first conversion. took it out to the range today and can shoot 1 MOA all day with irons. Even my wife shoots about 2-3 MOA with this. I'm glad she likes it so much cause now I can have my PSL back!

Thank you. I suspect my muzzle is already threaded under the front sleeve. For a quick change out, the Solar Tac, PRK, or Assault Planet (Prince50) AK bullet buttons are the way to go. For a converted Saiga re-using the original trigger guard, you would have to use either the Solar Tac or Assault Planet locks.

Unfortunately, it's gone through another change. Sacraficed for my Russian Tula Krinkov.
