Which company, lol, 'cause Century (original importer and retailer), J&G (retailer) and Aim (retailer) are taking two different positions.

ATF has made century recall rifles before. And not all of century's dealers (AIM) for instance even agree with them, as this contradicts all prior ATF ruling on the matter of Chinese SKSs.

And the question I was asking, how DOJ views these, is another issue for us in CA at least. If these are federally c&r based on merit and not date, since ATF doesn't recognize the serial dating system used on these, then they wouldn't qualify for CA c&r status unless CADOJ recognizes the serial dating system, right?

Yeah I noticed that too Scobun, if they are all from the Same source...yet 3 different retailers have three totally different rules and classification on them...yeah red flag right there.

it makes me wonder is the burdeon of proof on the state since they have to prove it was made after 1962 if they want to charge you if you try to ppt it without an ffl

which is not hard with say a 10/22 since they were invented in 1964

they went to spikes cause the bayonets could be bent really easily

Who knows. It says C&R, if they'll ship it then I'll take it. In for one! I'll report back when it arrives

Thanks for posting this! These look really cool!

Maybe not. Just think of Cheaper than Dirt and Sportsmans Guide. There are lots of things they won't ship to CA, but little of it is illegal.

They list them as C&R

Aims have them as FF1, not for sale in California

Aims is sold out of hand picks, I just spoke with J&G sales, they told me they came from Vietnam so the mystery is solved.

But Vietnam is on the list of "proscribed countries" that are illegal to import arms from. Albania seems more likely.

Well word on the Street is now is that these are coming from the the Balkans since a few of them have been surfacing with Albanian, Romanian parts such as the stocks and butt plates. That would make sense since a lot of imports such as Yugo____ , Romy_____ come from there. Also some are having similar trench art markings and it matches with the region.

No way these are imported from Vietnam because our laws prevent that.

Since even AIM recognizes it as c&r now, and most serials I've seen are in the 50s range (according to the unrecognized method), I think I'll pull the trigger.

SOG has them now. Listed as C&R but no sales to CA.

SOG Chinese SKS

Product Description:
Military SKS’s that haven’t been for sale in the U.S. for over 15 years. The state department stopped importation of these rifles and ammunition years ago. This lot is qualified as Curio & Relic and are 1960’s era rifles. Good to very good condition. Has storage dings in wood, metal is nice. Better grade rifle, add $25. Price: $249.95

Handpick +$10 Better Grade +$25

They have more than 185 in stock ( it let me add that number to my cart).

yeah from the ones I seen already the metal is in good shape. No rust, couple of scratches here and faded bluing but the bores are fine looking. So grateful for chrome lined barrels aren't we yugo owners? (yeah you know it was coming)

Already posted the following in the Market Place. Repost here for more exposure...

Since I am going to order a few, I might be able to do a mini group buy for people with out FFL03 and lives near me...

PM me if you are interested and willing to...

(1) Pay in advance (Paypal or FTF)
(2) Pick up at Chino Hills Turners
(3) Have a copy of your DL for my bound book

I called J&G and they highly recommended getting at least Hand Select. I will be getting Hand select and # matching. I will not be making any money on this, but I do reserve the right to the pick of the little.

PS. Shipping should be around $10 Per rifle pending on how many we order.

Well I declined the matching numbers part simply for one reason...since most of these are Balkan refurbs why spend an extra 20 bucks on a shooter? If I was going to get this simply for collectors item I would have gotten it...maybe. Plus all matching #'s only applied to the metal parts and not the stock so meh.

I did get the upgrade because I don't want to worry about big cracks in the stock or anything. I can't wait for it to come in!

Default totally pleased!

I got hand select, didn't pay for numbers matching but everything including stock matches. All the metal looks like new with no wear, everything functions well. The stock has some wear and dings, but nothing extreme and no cracks. The bore is shiny and filled with Cosmo line like the rest of the rifle is.

I expected a real beater with worn finish and beat up stock. What I got was a near perfect finish with only wear on the barrel, maybe from the bayonettte extended? and mechanicals that seem factory fresh with no discernible wear. I'm sure more will be revealed but so far so good. I don't really know what to take a pic of, so I tried to get some shots where you could see wear on the stock.

Better hurry BB they are going fast and looks like this is the last of the shipments from century.

They might be beats but they shoot good as early reports from the SKS forums are saying they are cycling well and shooting strait.

I'm returning two crappy "hand picked" Chinese 53's to J&G -

Maybe I'll just exchange them for one of these instead...

yeah nice one johnny! The wood looks to be in good shape actually and the metal looks fantastic. Just by look at it you can tell that is a well made early type 56. For that price it will be a great shooter.

Could you take some photos of the crown and down the barrel?

I'm in Los Angeles, 90046 for the record, if anybody was wondering about the CA thing.

Sure, actually I took a look at the crown earlier and it looks pristine to me, no scratches or wear.

Maybe there's finish wear under all the cosmoline I just don't see or something? I've never bought a C&R before so I dunno nuthin.

I'm at work but I'll take a pic of that barrel when I get home. I only have a cell phone so that's my excuse for the crap pictures.

OK sorry for crap pics. I need a real camera. There's no scratches or wear around there I can see anyway. Maybe when I remove cosmoline the finish will look poor? seems fine to me now.

Nice! wow that crown looks like new condition and can see the chrome lining. Still there after 50+ years. Rifling looks strong and crisp too, that will be a good sign.

Johny does yours have /26\ on the receiver? It should.

Yes, its got the 26 in the receiver and I was wrong, not all the numbers match. What would be the dust cover piece on an AK, with the number stamped facing the shooter, doesnt match. The stock/ trigger/bolt/magazine match. 256133 for the record. I lit the bore and its shiny just covered in cosmoline. I always wanted one of these since they were $99 for Russkie made ones. I got an 870 express instead for $220 instead. Dumb. It was fun though.

Well, the big brown truck just dropped off my china doll!

The stuck is beat up, there's almost no bluing left at all. But she's a beauty in my eyes

The crown is in good shape, the bore is dirty as all heck but I can see good rifling in there.

Numbers on the stock, magazine, trigger guard, receiver and receiver cover all match. Still gotta take the bolt out and check it.

And take some pics too. Based on the S/N (6 digit) she was born in 1956.

I'm in the same boat Joe. I tried emailing my 03 to J&G, and they said snail mail only. I placed an order and mailed out my 03 at the same time for a hand select/matching. Geez I hope they don't run out before they fill my order.

For some reason I get all giddy over the SKS more than any other firearm. Between this one and the Albanian I just bought, that will make an even 10!
