That is going to be a hard sell now that licensed carry is the only legal method of carrying a handgun (because Heller protects handguns).

Any way, it should be a good one and might very well be the point where the tide really turns instead of trading small victories for new unconstitutional restrictions.

Ok, put me down for two.
I will definitely be there, but I probably won't know about my +1 until that week(or that day...)

P.S. How is this being organized? We just show up at the courthouse and watch, then try to all get together after? Or will there be a designated place we are all meeting at after? Just curious, as I don't know any of you, or what the plans are. If I don't ask, I'll end up watching the case, the going home because I don't know who to talk to, lol.

You can't really miss us, we will probably occupy 2/3 of the courtroom and some overflow areas as well.

As thedrickel notes, we're hard to miss.

Generally, oral arguments at circuit court don't get a lot of groupies.

Probably a good place to put in a reminder, especially if this is a first visit:
Security is provided by the US Marshals. They are courteous and professional, and serious as a heart attack.

The courthouse in SF does NOT have storage for the weapons of those of you with LTC; don't bring your guns (unless you have secure storage for them someplace else in SF for the duration of the arguments). If you are LEO, the marshals will check your gun. (I think winning the cases at the bar on this occasion, and/or some others in progress, is what might motivate the courts to expand their gun-check service to non-LEO.)

Usual empty your pockets, walk through a metal detector.

In past occasions, they DID allow us to check our knives; I don't know if that was because JD called ahead, or if they do that anyway.

It's hard to tell. I have only been to this courthouse once in my life, but I'm going on what others have said in the past based on 100 plus showing up. The arguments happen at 09:00. I'm going to be there at least an hour in advance, but maybe I should show up earlier.

Erik.

Not later than 8:30 if you plan to be in the courtroom itself. Overflow room has a TV and you can talk in there; IIRC the one I saw holds about 20? around a table.

I'm in for the aftermath (i.e., lunch). Won't make it to the arguments themselves (not that it matters, since it sounds like there wouldn't be enough room anyway, and since I basically get nothing useful from recorded orals where I can actually rewind, you can imagine how useless unrecorded orals are likely to be for me).

Has a lunch venue been decided yet?

We are flying in the night before (10pm), hotel, arguments, party, then there for an additional night and flying out Saturday.

for everyone who was at Nordyke 4 -

What did you think of LuLu (the place we had the Nordyke 4 event)? I'm thinking of doing it again. It's big enough to put almost 100 of us in there. Food is solid. Drinks are good. Service is excellent...

Thoughts?

I felt a little underfed at LuLu.

Meh, LuLu was ok. Happy hour at the main bar and full priced drinks at the small bar was kind of lame, since the full prices were $$$

Put me in for one. Only for the lunch since I will be carrying, can't go to court (LTC).

I also do not want to run afoul of Police Code Article 36, SEC.3603 (Possession Of Firearms Prohibited While Upon Public Premises Selling Or Serving Alcoholic Beverages). I'll stay home if this is an issue (I never travel to SF without carrying).

I'll stay tuned for the venue (if the above is not an issue).

Most, if not all LTCs in CA do not have that restriction.

Excellent! I'll be there then. My LTC just has a "NOT VALID UNDER INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL" restriction. I'll tea-total it.

Default Venue

Somethings to consider guys.

We are going to have some key people amongst us who traveled great distances to be at the hearing.

Ideally this lunch could turn into a quarter day impromptu Gun Rights Policy conference.

Some of the future planning for gun rights battles will probably be devised at this event, it is everyone's opportunity to be part of history.

I think the focus should be on a venue that can accomodate our group and focus on food secondarily.

Ill bring coconuts! Thanks for trying to organize this. If I knew anything about SF I wouldn't mind helping, but if there is something I can do let me know. On a random note, I have had some pretty decent events at Buca Di Bepo lol.

If the after party is in SF, (although they don't do lunch) I would highly recommend the House of Prime Rib.

My Sister and I took Mom there one time for Mother's Day, and I will never forget it.

The House of Prime Rib has "semi private banquet rooms".

Yeah no way my dad is going to want to hunt geese in the morning and drive to Frisco for a lunch afterwards. Oh well.
