The Lyman digital gauge is actually pretty decent. The reason it's not reading the same is either because you are not pulling the gauge on the trigger consistently, or the trigger is not consistent.

Most people put the rifle butt on a table or hard surface, muzzle pointing up. Then pull the gauge straight down. Using actual weights is probably the most consistent since it doesn't involve user factor of actually pulling back on the gauge itself. Using weights just requires the operator to simply add weights until the sear breaks.
