Default Fund & Int Handgun Classes - San Jose Oct 24-25, 2012

Gray Ops Firearms Specialty Training, Inc., has added two additional tactical handgun classes to our schedule in San Jose, California:

Instructor: Gordon Gray

Tuition is $160 for a single day or $300 for both. Please call (209) 479-3145 or email (ggray@gofast1.com) for additional info and special instructions how to sign-up. http://www.gofast1.com/handguncourses.php

October 24 - Fundamental Tactical Handgun, 08:30 - 16:00
This hands-on gun safety class is a good mix of shooting and information, conducted in an enjoyable, supportive environment. Basic Handgun Safety & Responsibility is the duty of all handgun owners, this course will provide you with that foundation.

In this class you will learn to handle a handgun safely, load and unload them properly, draw and present the handgun, provide the basics for pistol marksmanship, and understand the laws concerning their use and ownership. Basic Handgun Safety & Responsibility should be considered a minimum for anyone who owns a firearm or lives in a household that has firearms.

Woman are welcome and encouraged to attend. Teenagers (16+) are welcome if attending with an adult.

Subjects Covered:
Gun Safety - The proper way to handle a handgun, loading and unloading a gun safely, and storage of a firearm in the home
Marksmanship - The proper way to hold a gun, aligning the sights, and pressing the trigger
Handgun Maintenance - Disassembly, cleaning, and safe storage
State Law - Ownership and possession, transportation, and concealed carry permits
Justifiable Self Defense - When is a gun legal to use in self defense, use-of-force considerations, dealing with the police after a self-defense confrontation

Required Equipment:
  • Modern Working Handgun (9mm - 45acp - approved by instructor)
  • 300 rounds of ammunition
  • Three magazines or speed loaders (minimum)
  • Magazine pouches
  • Belt holster (Strong side, Open, Concealed, Duty or Tactical)
  • Pants with belt (no shorts)
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Ball Cap
  • Personal Water Supply
  • Weather Appropriate Gear (sun screen, rain gear, etc.)

Recommended but not required:
  • Pants w/cargo pockets
  • Elbow pads / Knee pads

Weather does not dictate the fight nor should it affect your training! Wear weather appropriate clothing. No shorts or open toed shoes will be allowed!

October 25 - Intermediate Tactical Handgun ~ 08:30 - 1800
Real defensive shooting can happen in any circumstance and when we are least expecting it. Train to initiate or return fire in worst-case situations and environments, in awkward body positions with a moving attacker.

In this course, we'll cover , Firearms Safety, including Range Safety and Commands, Dry-fire Practice, Modes of Readiness, Principles of Personal Defense, Introduction to Tactics, Drawing and Shooting from a Holster, Drawing and Shooting from a Concealed Carry Device, Introduction to Movement: Shooting While Moving, Strong Hand and Weak Hand Shooting, How to Clear Malfunctions, Timed Drills to Improve Your Ability to Function Under Stress, Multiple Shots on a Single Assailant, Multiple Shots on Multiple Assailants, Point Shooting vs. Sighted Shooting, Extreme Close Quarters Shooting, Cover and Concealment: Engaging targets from cover, Extra: Friendly, fun competition events on reactive targets!

Eligibility Requirements:
This course is NOT designed to teach first-time beginners how to shoot. You must already have had some training, and possess solid, safe gun handling skills.

We teach, and you learn through positive feedback which builds self-confidence. We believe that you should not only develop good shooting skills, but the confidence to apply those skills in a self-defense scenario, if the need arises.

The overall pace of the course is at a medium, steady speed, with many repetitions and breaks to review and assess your performance. For many of the exercises, you will work in teams of two. Women are encouraged to attend this course with a friend or spouse.

You must be physically capable of performing the movement drills - specifically, moving forward, back, and side to side in unison with the line of shooters. While these drills are not strength or stamina intensive, they require good concentration, coordination and, above all, total adherence to safety.

Careless/unsafe gun handling practices are not permissible and will be cause for removal from the line faster than you can blink.

Required Equipment:
  • Modern Working Handgun (9mm - 45acp - approved by instructor)
  • 400 rounds of ammunition
  • Three magazines or speed loaders (minimum)
  • Magazine pouches
  • Belt holster (Strong side, Open, Concealed, Duty or Tactical)
  • Pants with belt (no shorts)
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Ball Cap
  • Personal Water Supply
  • Weather Appropriate Gear (sun screen, rain gear, etc.)

Recommended but not required:
  • Pants w/cargo pockets
  • Elbow pads / Knee pads

*** Prerequisite: Certificate of completion from our Fundamental Handgun course or a comparable course from an accredited instructor required to attend (please contact for approval prior to singing up). Equivalent experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
