Default Llama .38 Super 1911

I just bought a used Llama for $200 at the local gun store. I already have a Thompson Auto Ordnance 1911 in .38 Super, so I'm not new to the round. They had an RIA 1911 in .38 Super, so I tried a new mag in the Llama, and it didn't like to lock in. There is no grip safety on the Llama, and it appears a little different. What are the main differences between a regular 1911 and the Llama?

You have a Llama V in .38ACP not 38 Super. The 38 Super is the model VIII and has a grip safety. Do not fire Super out of this gun.

It looks like the upper one in this photo.

I have a 9mm Kart barrel and bushing I was going to fit to my other .38 Super, I guess I'll see if I can convert this one.

The gun you have is a model V and it was made to fire 38 Super. I hate to contradict anyone but I have the model V and the box that it came in and it is marked 9mm 38 "Super". My Model VIII Military and Police is marked 9mm Bergman 38 Super on the slide and is exactly the same gun as my model VII Military and Police which is marked 9mm/38. The recoil springs are even rated for the same number of lbs. These two guns are less than 100 numbers apart in their manufacturer. Based on this it is my opinion that all Llamas in 9mm/38 will fire 38 Super safely as they are no different than a Colt 38 super in their frame and barrel sizes. If you should want out of the one you have I will give you more than you paid for it and shoot 38 Super in it.

You can see my box at http://www.carbinesforcollectors.com/llamapage.html

Cool thanks for posting that. I had always thought the Model V was .38ACP
