Default Its About Friggen Time (Bunker Hill safe from Harbor Freight)

So i've been looking but have never come across a really good deal until this weekend. So i know Harbor Freight isn't known for their outstanding quality products but after reading a bunch of reviews on this guy i really couldn't say no given the price!

$320 on sale. Lucky for me they had them in stock in the warehouse and i was able to save >$100 on shipping! Loaded it into the jeep and headed home.

I am by no means a strong guy and this thing was NOT FUN to get in the apartment. at only 250lbs i still had a hell of a time. I couldn't imagine moving anything heavier all by myself.

Since i dont have a hammer drill for drilling into concrete (and the fact that i doubt the apartment management would approve) i decided to mount it to the wall. Found the studs in the wall and used some 2x4 as a crossmember; then mounted the safe to the 2x4's. I'm quite pleased with the results. I was hoping to be able to store all my ammo in the safe as well but i didn't realize how much i actually had.

3 AR rifles, 3 AR pistols, a shotgun, 4 handguns, and i have to figure out a way to fit the Mosin in there.

I thought 20% off the normal price of $399? You mean i could have used the coupon for another 20%?

Ya 20% off works on sale prices. Sometimes they have 25%. I bought their engine hoist with a 25% and the next week bought the air over hydraulic ram with a 20% and came in around the average sale price of the cherry picker.

Was $320 out the door? Looks like a decent safe, and I need one. But have to be able to fit a 51" shotgun. And the Winchester from Tractor Supply for $200 more is probably a better size for me.

What is the compartment up top? Another safe? I have mostly pistols, but will eventually have more long guns.

I just measured it for ya. 50.5" interior height w/o shelves. Diagonally you could fit a 53.5" long gun.

Im headed back there now with the coupon.

Its another locked storage container with separate keys. It also comes with 3 shelves. I currently dont have anything in the lock box yet and wish it were removable.

That would be nice, then my shotgun would fit. Thanks for measuring. I guess I could store it diagonally or just pull the barrel. everything else I have would fit, but then no room for handguns unless there is room on the door. I may go see if the big new store has them.

Good luck getting 20% back, I've never had good luck with their customer service.

Enjoy it while you can(20% off sale items) for some reason the San Diego stores stopped letting us do it. It's posted everywhere and they are sticking to it. :-/

Congrats on the deal!

Default Question?

What is that bracket on the door for? Looks like the holders I use at work for scope probes and BNC cables. Too small for rifles (and too sharp being metal).

That's good news. Harbor Freight is pretty good to their customers.

Congratulations on getting the safe. They seem essential in California. And it's tough when landlords won't allow them to be floor mounted, but then I can understand why.

Honestly i've never been found a display safe thats operated correctly.

The keypad stores up to an 8 number key code. After the correct code is entered a solenoid disengages allowing the plastic knob to turn. The plastic knob is turned 90* which then unlocks the lever allowing it to turn and disengage the 5 x 3/4" steel bars.

There are 3 bars on the opening side of the door, one on top and one on bottom. The hinges are located inside the safe.

The safe comes with 2 keys to open the main door and 2 keys to open the lockbox inside the safe. The only negative thing i've read is that the nut on the plastic knob fell off on someone after 3-4 years of use. If you have the key this is no issue and can easily be foxed. Loctite is recommended regardless.

If you are looking for a fire safe, this is not rated to withstand fires... or at least for an extended period of time. I am not worried as much about fire as i am about theft.

How thick are the walls? I saw this safe this weekend and it felt super thin with flimsy controls. Are you happy with it?

OP, congrats on getting the safe for that price. Mine was a little more OTD, but I too, got it on sale PLUS the 20% coupon.

Decent bang for the buck safe and better than nothing.

There is nothing in the owner's manual that states what those brackets are for.

I'm using it to hold my 1 piece cleaning rods. The lower piece at the bottom keeps them from swinging when opening and closing the door. I _think_ that is what they are for.

I've tried searching online for more info or even a number to call to ask, but no luck. With regards to info on this safe, my Google-Fu is weak.

I've also hung some safe pockets from the bracket to hold little stuff.

Magnetic hooks work well in the safe as well as stickon LED lights

I also did a variant of what this guy's DIY pistol rack. Bolted it to the top shelf and mounted the shelf as high as it could go in the safe. Instead of using shrink wrap to cover the rods, I used Plastidip.

My longest AR, a 20" with a standard A2 buttstock still fits underneath. My shotguns don't fit and I can only fit 1 diagonally. The others have their barrels removed in order to fit.

I'll try and post pics later.

I plan on turning this safe into a ammo safe and I am quickly outgrowing this one.
