Default Time to treat myself

... By going shopping. Like for a new pistol. It's been so long since I bought a new one that my little handgun card thingy (I can't even remember what it's called) has been expired for a couple of years.

yes, i have the urge to buy something too....maybe a rifle. been years since i bought something that went "boom". please let us know what you get!

my HSC expired in July......and i admit i have pretty much what i want except for rifles. admittedly, i enjoy shooting pistols more, though.

anyone have a .22 lr or .22m takedown? for some reason i think i need one which translates to i want one....

so, redhead: any idea if semi-auto or revolver? caliber? another .45?

I'm thinking another pistol, probably a .40 this time. I have a nice array of revolvers, a couple of .45 autos, as well as a 38 and a 22.

Oh, yes, I do have a 9 mm, a S&W. I like it a lot. My .22 is a pistol, a Ruger Mark II. I don't shoot rifles because the distace vision in my right eye is poor and I have a tough time hitting the target.

I shot a 90 year old Colt Woodsman 22LR last weekend. That thing was SWEET. My grouping was a little over an inch wide. I'm thinking about picking one up.

So, I did a little looking around last night regarding the SSE for the Sig Ldy Apxr> that's intriguing. I've been pretty unhappy with the stupid roster restrictions. I'm always pleased to find ways to get the item of my choice. What's a FLL07?

You can buy an off roster gun by buying it as a single shot exemption. In other words, the barrel is modified so that it cannot accept a magazine and rounds are loaded into the weapon one at a time. Once you legally own the gun, you can convert it back over to semi-automatic.

Some places are good at this and some aren't, so I would suggest finding someone that has a good reputation at doing the SSE game.

Nice. I haven't been up there, yet. Looks like I should check them out. I used EBR Works for my very first gun... which was an XDm 9mm 5.25 Competition (yes, it had to be SSE'd). Great people, but SO FAR to drive.

Check the California Handguns forum here, and read the stickies. Not only will you get the full legal mumbo jumbo, but also a list of who will do SSEs and which guns they will perform them for.

LOL - I am one of those damn Texans and I have to say, I feel for you people in California. I go on gun broker a lot and almost every gun sale says not to California. WTH. It is so nice to walk in and get what ever gun you want. I have the need to buy another also.

I have....

Springfield XD9
Springfield EMP 1911 style
Ruger LCR 38
The Judge - shoots 45's and 410's shells
S&W 357

That sig you talked about - I had to go and look - Awwww nice

Funny story time.......

In my neighborhood, is a sweet 75 year old, gun packing great grandmother named Edna. We both know we have CHL's. I saw her walking last week and went outside and said, Hey, Edna, what are you packing today?

Edna: My Kimber 45...what do you have under that shirt?

Me: My Springfield XD 9 with a 16 round mag

Edna: Darlin, you are going to have to use all 16 rounds with that pee-shooter.

A "depends" moment started soon after that statement.

Moral of story - they might looks sweet but don't mess around with a 75 year old great grandmother - she might be packing a Kimber 45

LOL - glad I gave you a grin today - here is another Ednaism. The first time we went to the indoor firing range was.....well I digress. I thought I would smoke her. She put on her eye protection, ear protection, slammed a mag into her gun, slid back the action all in less than 30 seconds. She tapped on my shoulder and said - first 5 shots - loser buys breakfast. I smiled and said, I hope you have money on you. She said, I don't need it. She then proceeded to zip her target 35 feet down the range. I said, Oh you want to play do you? Bring it on Edna.

Long story short - she put a can of whoop a@@ on me and I bought breakfast. 3 TIMES, she said, best free breakfast I ever had. Oh the humanity!!!!

I am now changing the slogan of Don't Mess with Texas to Don't mess with Edna.

Haven't done any shopping yet, but will start looking around later this week. I'm not in a hurry. I did go shooting yesterday with my husband and a friend of mine. It was kind of a hot afternoon, but we still had a lot of fun.

It is a bit if a ride for you, but check out Sacramento Black Rifle. They will do the single shot exemption. In five days, I get my Glock 19 Gen 4.

Don't feel bad for us vision. We have great weather, no humidity and a crazy government system. Many of the guns you see listed not avail in CA is because they just don't want to ship here because of the hassle. It gets worked out with time and patience.

I went shooting yesterday also, red. North Highlands has a great new indoor range for those hot days!

Wonder how well that finish will hold up? Beautiful but I question what the heat of barrel will do to the rainbow finish. Just a thought.

My girlfriend says there is no issue with the finish. It's not a glaze or painted on. She uses her 9mm as her carry weapon so it rubs on her holster quite a bit and shows no wear or tear.

Since it is not "legal" in CA(with exception of a SSE), I don't see how a group by would work.

Holy Jesus, I think I need that...I've never seen one of these in CA though, I've seen similar treatment on some fire arms OOS.

Thats why we keep a home in CO, only recently came back Fulltime to CA, only because the $ was to good to pass up. Otherwise any other place is nearly freer then CA.

Move maybe? :P

Try a M&P15-22 , we have 2 for our little munsters, and two of our own too. They make great practice rifles since 5.56 is pretty pricey, you can run all your practice drills with them, a little lack luster, but fun, and saves $ on ammo.

Agreed. And I only just recently skinnied down our gun room of stuff we don't use and need, from LWRC, to Nighthawk, honestly, a M&P or a Glock really does everything needed just doesn't look that pretty :P well ok, they do, just not AS pretty as some. After selling a few LWRC rifles like a 6.8 and a repr, just finished building a 14.5 BCM upper with a noveske wide flare lower, had one of the guys in our car team machine out grooves at front for traction on the lower, and some custom graving with roses, thorn vining, and an ATHENA TACTICS logo on opposite side of Noveske logo :P kinda got my fill of pretty ;P

That is a sweet looking Sig...thing is I had a SIG 239 (40)...felt like a 2x4 in my hand...hated it!! Sold it to my friend, 6 months later it blew up at the range. Ended up switching to a Glock 36 (45) accurate as all heck and feels so much better!!

I'm pretty sure I threw it away during one of my purge the purse sessions.

Since it is not "legal" in CA(with exception of a SSE), I don't see how a group by would work.
Here is what I don't understand about California - what the heck is wrong with this rainbow gun that is a 9m? And what is the SSE? Sorry, I am from Texas so all of this "what you can and can't buy" is all greek to me.

There's nothing wrong with the gun. California has an "approved, safe handgun" list. In order for a company to get a gun on the "approved" list, they have to submit some actual handguns for testing. Gotta make sure they're safe, you know. I think they have to submit three, and pay a fee as well. Not all models and finishes are submitted, so only the ones that are submitted can be tested and listed. Then the listing is only good for a few years. Once the gun falls off the list, the only way we can buy one is through a private party transfer, through a FFL. Can't buy one from out of state. The SSE is single shot exemption. Basically, a dealer will ship the gun you want to a gunsmith here who's willing to do the work to convert it to a single shot. It's transferred to you, then you have it converted back the way it was.

It's insane. But I'm sure we're all much, much safer.
