Default Empty Wooden Ammo Crates – Other Uses

I have some empty wooden ammunition boxes and was wondering what I could use them for. What other uses have others found for these types of crates?

a reloading bench from these would be awesome. You'll need more of 'em though.

End tables?
Coffee tables?
Keep them like that for art?
Display stuff on them in your house?

Just how many of those do ya have?

donate them to a local gun shop for decoration if they have the room for them.

Mount them to the wall to use as shelving. Maybe you can use the lid as a divider.

Default tool boxes

My father-in-law used the large surplus ammo crates for his tools in the garage. had one for plumbing tools and one for electric saws. Looked cool and was easy to throw in the truck for jobs.

The best use I can think of would be to donate them to HK CHEF.. Yeah that's a good idea. But yes if you have kids they are good for toys. Would also make for nice change collectors.

Use them as tinder for a fire... Wood is great for burning. It's really dry.

If you had open ended ones (removable sides), they made great "field crappers", but these are not open ended...

Stack them up in front of the most logical (illegal) entry point for a burglar to fall over/stumble over when breaking in?
I mean decoration...

They'd make a GREAT hard surface base for using with a bullet puller.

There were some really cool plans floating around (I believe on here somehwere) to make a magazine rack out of old ammo crates (the reading type, not the weapon type)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Looks like one will be heading back east with some ammunition I just sold. I like the text and graphics on the boxes so I will keep one of each, take them apart and mount the panels with the text and graphics over my reloading bench.

I use an old wooden blasting powder crate as a magazine holder in the library.

I don't know how many of these crates you have but, if you have extras, let me know. I'd find something to do with it. I can also find something 50 related to trade you. I like the one without the bands best.

Hi Greg,

I have been selling off my stash of 50BMG ammo and was left with the crates. I have posterior vitreous detachment in my left eye and it has begun in my right eye. This is normal with ageing for many, but I did develop a retinal tear and a hole about 6 months after the vitreous detached in my left eye. I do not believe my 82A1 could cause a retinal detachment in a healthy eye, but I believe it could lead to a retinal tear if you already have a posterior vitreous detachment, which would cause the retina to detach. For this reason I may stop shooting my 82A1.

I have not shot my 82A1 in two years and had planned to meet Buddy at Coalinga this past spring to shoot off the tripod, but Buddy died in February . If I ever get caught up with the repair on my home I will make a trip to Coalinga for a memorial shoot to remember Buddy. I put one can of M33 Remington aside for that day.

I would be happy to give you a crate for all the hard work you have done for the FCSA, but we live too far apart and shipping would be expensive.

Howard

A weekend in Coalinga would be fun. Let me know if you're ever can find the time and then, we'll figure out a weekend.

Don't worry, I would never neglect to tell you. I'd make sure it was posted on the FCSA forum.

I have made a few nice guitars using wood from old crates. This is one of my favorites.

If I was using an old ammo box I'd cut the body to take advantage of the stenciling and clear finish it.

Regards.

The stenciling would make one hell of a Dobro top..

Your work is outstanding !!

I plan to keep one of each crate and do exactly as you suggested. I will hang them over my reloading bench.
