Question Scope for Marlin 795????

I have now officially jailed a Marlin 795. I was thinkin' (usually gets me in big trouble!) I'd like to play with this gun at the 100 yd range. This would seem to call for a scope. I have NO knowledge of this kind of stuff. So here goes the questions.

What would be a good scope to shoot at =>100 yds?
I don't want the very best, but the best for the money.

How far can this gun shoot accurately?
25', 300', 600' etc

I would appreciate all comments. Even the ones that think I'm crazy, because that's already been established!

Someone will probably say I am telling a fish story but there where people there that can back this up.

This year at the Super Secret Zombie Shoot I was next to a guy with a 50 Cal and he had about a 2' x 2' Steel plate he placed all the way out on the berm which people where guessing was about 350 yards away.

Using an approximately 12 foot hold over (I could have dialed up my turrets but I wanted to keep my 25 yard zero) I was able to repeatedly hit the plate. Talking others thru what I was aiming at they where able to do it on my rifle too. It wasn't too hard to walk on target because since it was on the hill we could see the dust kick up and adjust.

Closer in at 25 yards my 795 shoots dime size groups if I do my part.

What scope do I use?
UTG 3-9x 50mm R/G Illuminated A/O
For the money I think it is an excellent scope for a rimfire. (biggest negative of it is its size and weight)

hmmm, Chaos.

Kidding, bro. Thanks for sharing. Naturally, I'll have to confirm this for myself using my own rifle and scope.

I have the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9x40 on my Marlin 795 and I really like it. It's accurate as far out as I am.

Chaos, what scope mount are you using with this combination. I've been reading about your Leapers scope and it sounds like a good scope for the price, I just need to find the right combination of scope and mounts.

TIA

On all of my rimfires, I have: a UTG/Leapers 4-16x40 AO, a Simmons 22MAG 3-9x32, a Tasco Pronghorn 3-9x40 and a Bushnell 4x32. They all get the job done for me. If I'm not doing any kind of competition shooting (just plinking) where that extra .25" smaller group counts, I personally don't see any point in spending a lot on a scope. If I really wanted to spend some money on a rimfire scope, I'd probably max out at a Nikon Rimfire 3-9x BDC.

I shoot 100 yds with iron sights and a red dot. If you want a scope for that range you really don't need much magnification. I would use a 4x fixed or 1x-4x or a 2x-7x variable.

The scope is a great value, your not going to find too many other ones that are illuminated and have an adjustable objective for that price. I also feel that the glass is very clear. They also includes a sun shade and flip up caps with it. I will say it again though, the scope is pretty big and heavy. If you are going to be shooting from a table most of the time its awesome! If you plan to carry the rifle and hunt with it... you could still do it but may want to consider something smaller.

Here is the mount I use:
UTG "Airgun" .22 Integral Ring Mount
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Airgun-Pro.../dp/B002TUSJV6
Note: Make sure to get the height and the tube size your scope needs

The dovetail rail is notorious for ring movement.
This integral ring will keep your scope solid.
Recommended to and from numerous 795 owners as the best ring option.

Here is a link to the new 795 mega thread that might help any more questions you may have http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=607193

Use this amazon link to support CGN when you go to amazons website. Great scope prices from amazon. Just be sure what you are ordering is sold and ships by amazon.

Hi Chaos47

I was wondering how far you can shoot with your setup. I get my 795 out of jail on Monday and I'm planning to get tech-sights for it now, but I would like to eventually try to shoot at longer ranges (may end up picking up a bolt action instead of using the 795, though).

As my first post in the thread I have shot it out to 350 yards, but do most my shooting at 25 yards (Appleseed distance)

I'm running a bsa sweet 22 3-9x40 on my marlin and getting dime size 5 shot groups at 50 yards. My dad got one for his marlin xt-22 that's sitting in jail right now. And also one for his single shot Stevens that one is getting dime size groups at 100yds. And its only 39.95 from amazon

get this scope (mentioned before) from SWFA

http://swfa.com:80/BSA-3-9x40-Sweet-...pe-P42505.aspx

$39 scope
$16 for scope caps

GREAT customer service. I highly recommend them. If there is an issue, at least in my experience, they will fix it.

We have 2 of these scopes from them, no issues, brand new in box.

when you call the customer service line, you talk to a person without waiting on hold forever and they fix any issues.

I'd get the Butler Creek caps as well, remind them to send the 18s and not the 20s for the front

What about the Center Point 3-9X32mm from WallyWorld? I seem to remember a lot of you guys running them on your 795's and giving good reviews, and I just noticed tonight that they are In-Store now at my local WalMart... (they used to only have them online)

I actually just got my UTG/Leapers 3-12x40 today from amazon. It's pretty nice for the price! Adjustable objective down to 5 yards, red/green illuminated mil dot reticle, pretty clear glass. I'm happy with it. My Marlin is still in jail, so I put it on my AR in the meantime just to check it out.

I may actually try it out on the AR but I did get it specifically for my Marlin, either way I'm satisfied so far although I haven't taken it to the range yet.

For the price, the UTG Full-Size scopes are pretty decent.
