Default Calling all cowboy gun experts

I've recently tried shooting duelist style(one handed) with my Uberti SAA in 45 colt. When the bullet connects with a steel plate at 25 or 50 yards, you just know this is the way the gun was meant to be shot. At least for me it is. The "clang!" and the resulting upwards pointed muzzle feels soo right. The problem I'm getting is how to keep a constant grip so that the POI is the same every time. I have to hold low by about 2ft @ 25y or about 1.5ft at 50yds but POI seems to be really sensitive to grip pressure. I'm having trouble getting consistency. Any tips on how to be accurate and consistent with a SAA style revolver, duelist style?

Duelist and gunfighter styles are in CAS because they are fun, not because they are methods to get a good score.

Every handgun in history needs a solid and consistent grip, as well as a smooth trigger pull. It's just much, much harder to provide that single handed. With a single action it's even worse because you're also destroying your shooting grip to cock the hammer every shot.

The best way to get consistent is quite simple: lots and lots and LOTS of practice. Get to the point where it's all muscle memory. Dry hands also help - a wipedown and some dirt or talc right before your stage would help.

Also remember with a single action, the hammer takes longer to drop than on a semi auto or even double action revolver. It is critical to make sure you hold the sights on target a bit longer than with other handguns, giving the bullet plenty of time to get out of the barrel before you try to re-cock the hammer. Very common issue.

Thanks for posting. I bought a Beretta (Uberti) Stampede 45LC last year and also can't shoot well single handed. (But I'm noob to SSA 'Cowboy' guns). I shoot as well with it as ANY gun I have with both hands..

Look into Bisley style grips.

I happen to use a pair of Ruger New Model Vaquero Bisleys for CAS. They are very nice. All I have to do is do my part and hold the gun right. I have a pair of reduced power springs for cocking the hammer that I will have installed and it should be better from then.
