Default AK training options

I was planning on taking AK training class with Paul Gomez. Unfortunately Paul passed away at a young age before I could get off my *** and take his class.

What other good options do we have in California for a class from good instructors?

Why dont you learn the AK from someone who actually carried it as their primary weapon for most of their career.

^^^That last video has alot if muzzle sweeping going on. More than I would feel comforable with. Maybe Russian small arms safety doctrine is a little diffrrent.

I don't think Sonny Puzikas is leading any training classes these days.

Check Suarez International's website. Gabe is the guy for AK specific training. You know that when the freakin' Russian's hire you to teach them AK techniques, you have good reputation.
I took his Extreme AK class a couple of years ago in NV. It's like no other firearm training you'll ever get. You will know your gun and how to fight with it by the end of the class.
Note:
Most of Gabe's classes are not for begining shooter. You can be new to the weapon's system but not new to shooting. Your class will ramp up quickly and move along subject to subject. Your basic shooting/safety skills need to be intact otherwise you'll be frustrated trying to keep up with the rest of the class. Not recommended if this is your first formal training venue. I knew how my AK worked when I went in and I had learned how to fight with it when I left. If offered I recommend the AK Armorer class as part of your AK training package. Jim Fuller (and crew) at Rifle Dynamics do a great job for Gabe.

If you are already proficient with long guns but have zero familiarity with the AK platform, then watch these two DVDs three times and practice.
The Fundamental Kalashnikov DVD
Kalashnikov Rifle Gunfighting DVD

Afterwards, take a carbine class from any reputable trainer. They always have some valuable info to share regardless of the rifle you use in the class.

Falcon Ops Group started offering AK classes. They shoot at Prado Olympic Shooting Park.
I used my AK at one of their AR classes and one of their instructors, Anson Beck took the time to show my some techniques that helped a lot in weapon manipulation and weapon mastery.

I highly recommend their class. It's also extremely affordable.

Default AK specific Class - Castro Valley on Sept 7th, 2012

Josh Jackson from LMS Defense is holding an AK specific class at Chabot Gun Club on Friday Sept 7th. Click here for the link.

Cost $200 per person. From the number of students signed up, this class looks like it will have a high instructor-to-student ratio.

I took the day off from work just for this class. LOL

LMS Defense also has an Intermediate Carbine class this Sunday, but it is not AK specific.

For those interested in the LMS Defense AK class on Sept. 7, unfortunately it is being closed due to low enrollment. We are looking at adding a weekend class date at Sac Valley Shooting Range and possibly either a Monday or Friday (due to the current range schedule) at Chabot in Castro Valley. If you are interested in AK or any other firearms training, please contact me at joshjackson@lmsdefense.com or visit our website at www.lmsdefense.com for current class schedule and info.

Gesun, Bullseye U.S.A. Inc. is hosting Jim Fuller of Rifle Dynamics and Sonny Puzikas for a 3-day AK fighting course in Gardnerville, NV on November 9th, 10th, and 11th.

The first day is what amounts to an entry-level armourer's course on the AK with Jim Fuller of Rifle Dynamics. Jim Fuller builds some of the best AK's in the world and is about as knowledgeable as anyone on them. You will learn complete tear down just short of breaking welds, learn history, what aftermarket components and accessories actually work, and so much more. Jim usually brings some extra "fun pieces" with him as well.

Day 2 and 3 are all on the range with former Spetznaz Operator and AK/CQB master Sonny Puzikas. You work drills that cover shooting on the move, CQB techniques, reloads and malf clearances, transitions, ambi shooting techniques, hand-to hand with the AK, and much much more.

Cost for all 3 days is $550.00. Email Bullseye Training Coordinator Jackie at training@bullseyeusa.com or call (415) 233-9658 for more info.

I took the class last year. I've had some great training experiences in my career, including lots of POST/SWAT training, multiple Gunsite classes, 2 weeks with former SEALS, (real ones doing real training on the S.F. Bay with my former SWAT), FBI SWAT and HRT, and more. The 3 days with Jim Fuller and Sonny was truly epiphanous.

Best,
Marco
Chief Instructor, BUSA

You can watch Alex Haley's AK training video. It's more of an overview than specific training, however it was quite an eye opener and I thought I already knew a lot about the AK.

Thanks joash.

With Larry Vickers cancelling his May AK class, these DVDs will have to do.
