I've used one of Darrel's Scout mounts, and I think it's the best one out there. http://p102.ezboard.com/fparallaxscu...icID=133.topic

As far as the scope goes, Leupold makes a specific scout scope. The FX-II in 2.5x. I have 2 of these ad really like them.

Weaver makes a handgun scope that allows for decent eye relief.

Burris makes (or made?) a handgun scope in 2.75x that works extremely well. I have one of these on a Mauser.

Some people have had good luck with NC Star scopes. I had 2. They both crapped out in less than 20 rounds on my Mosins. I got them replaced and then sold the replacements without using them.

With MOST handgun scopes the eye relief is just too long even for a scout configuration.

Before you buy a scope, hold your rifle like you would when shooting it. Have someone measure from your eye to right about where the front of the bolt is when closed. That's about where the rear of a scout scope will be. Then check the manufacturer's eye relief specs.

When I bought the Burris it was at the Big Reno Gun Show. I knew how close it would be so I just kept picking up hand gun scopes and holding them at the needed distance to see how things looked through them. I bought the Burris because it was less than the Weaver. Almost bought both. It was $45 used.

wow that's a nice scope and that might actually help fulfill the rifles distance potential :-P thanks for the info on the mount. how weird the mount is different for the 91/30 and the m44. i thought that they would be interchangable.

The 91/30 rear sight is longer than the 38 or 44 rear sight.

Another option you might want to look into is a Mojo rear sight. Maybe not as good as a scope, but IMO it's good enough for 91/30 accuracy.

I was thinking of a mojo sight for my M44, the 91/30 is just a barreled reciever that i'm tacticooling :-P it's what ajax22 is selling. i have a magazine and trigger group for it, so just needs a stock and to actually pick up the reciever from him :-P
I might go mojo with it too, be cheaper :-P
