Default Springfield XD .40 9mm Conversion Questions

Hello Gunsmiths,

A few questions regarding 9mm conversion barrels for the Springfield XD .40 family:

I see there are a few companies - like Bar-Sto - which seems to have some healthy lead times - but I am wondering:

1) Does the barrel have to be a conversion barrel? Can I drop in a 9mm barrel into the .40 upper?
2) Related - can you point out what are the main differences with a 9mm barrel and the conversion barrel from .40 to 9mm (if any)?

3) Is it OK to use a 'drop-in' barrel vs. barrels that require a gunsmith? (I suppose that depends on how well the drop-in really fits.)

4) Can you get these ceracoted or do they only come stainless and then you must take them to get ceracoted?

5) Any suggestions on where to order the barrels? I have asked Springer Precision and they don't sell the 9mm conversion barrels.

Thanks In Advance For Your Time,
johnw

Well, seeing absolutely no responses to this thread - I went ahead with Bar-Sto and took my respective place in line.

Can anyone here comment on their conversion barrel experience? Were you pleased with the results?

Just wondering.
