Default AR Rifle match in Castaic this Saturday 200/300/600 yards

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=591998

Folks here is a PERFECT chance to learn your AR15 and shoot some XTC in a real NRA match.

This is the best shooting around, and you can learn a ton about your rifle and how to really shoot it, how good you are in relation to your peers, and just have a ton of fun.

All you need is a spotting scope, a sling, and a 20" AR15 service rifle (A2 or a M4 with iron sights).

It helps to know your zeros for 200, 300, and 600 yards too. And you need to watch a video on youtube on how to work the pits, but its simple.

This is a private range, and its absolutely beautiful, well kept, and in Castaic.

I learned more about F class sitting in the pits with some of their world class shooters and company than reading about it for the last three years.

if you can make this match, sign up as spots are limited, and take your gun, a chamber flag, your spotting scope, and 88 rounds of ammo and have a blast.

BRRC NRA High Power, XTC Match, Saturday July 14th 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now taking signups for Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club's next XTC High Power Match, Saturday July 14th, 2012 . The course of fire is the 80 Shot Regional Course, fired at 200, 300, and 600 yards.

The match is NRA Approved, and the scores are submitted to NRA Competitions Division to establish and improve your High Power Rifle Classification. Held every 2nd Saturday of the month (except August), the complete BRRC 2012 XTC NRA HP Rifle program can be found here:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=519491

BRRC's main range has one firing line and three target pits. So no movement of your equipment between stages makes for an easier time of it.

Last month we maxed out at our entry limit of 21 shooters. We're already near our limit again! Currently we have 17 signed up, so only four (4) entry spots remaining. This is the last BRRC XTC match before Camp Perry, as we take a break in August .

Please contact Jeff Mendoza to sign up:
xtc@brrc.org (please put XTC or XC in the subject title)
Directions to range available:

Live weather station, on the BRRC firing line, updated every 135 seconds:

Thanks for the plug bubbapug1!

FYI to prospective competitors to NRA High Power, Saturday's match is "XTC" (aCROSS The Course), meaning this format covers standing, sitting, and prone, slow and rapid fire, at 200, 300, and 600 yds.

XTC (on Second Saturdays) is 1 of 3 High Power Rifle matches held at BRRC.

Third Saturdays is Mid Range Prone (600 yds), bubbapug1 mentioned F-Class, that's one of the rifle categories at this match, along with slinged rifles, with scopes and iron (match) sights, and service rifles.

Then on 3rd Sundays (odd number months) is the CMP training match, which is basically the same format as XTC, but way more layed back and with lots of personal instruction. This match is the 'primer' for the first two.

Here's a link to our 2012 XTC Match Bulletin: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=519491

And here are additional links to NRA high power competition, which cover the XTC format, and YouTube has many videos of highpower competitors in action.

I just want to fill in those slots! I think its crazy to go wait in line at angeles to shoot when you can go to a private range and shoot a match! And they don't spot your hits at Angeles either.

Are there still openings? I emailed Jeff and am waiting for a response. Hopefully I can sneak in; not many 600s' out there!

Just a few thoughts on the Match this weekend..

What a great time! For those looking for a full course of fire at distance, I think this is a tough one to beat. The shooters who all showed up were all experienced and most importantly, great attitude toward sharing information and relaxed making the enviornment friendly to new shooters; very important!!!

The facilities, although a bit off the beaten path for some, were very nice with shaded areas for parking your cars under giant oaks. The range has a really nice feature of multiple pits nullifying the need to pack and move all your equipment from line to line. Pits are located at 200, 300 and 600 yards so your equipment can stay at the shooting line under a well built shaded canopy. As far as the firing line goes, a nice pea gravel surface is much better than dirt or concrete!

The match did start at 8:00 and on time! No dilly dallying around and inneficiencies were minimized allowing 15 shooters in 3 relays of 5 to cycle through without hesitation. Having a knowledgable group of guys to help along the new shooters also made this possible.

For those looking to try High Power shooting, for the price of the match, you get a lot. Most importantly, the 600 yards which is difficult to find without travelling a ways, plus an NRA sanctioned match to boot. This combined with the good company, I'll definitely be out again and bringing a friend or two to try it out!
Now if I can only get that damn 200 yard line figured out, I'd be good to go!!!!!!!

Thanks guys for the great time!

Brian

Im so glad it went well. It's a well run match and the group is extremely helpful and even helps one with pet loads and experience based knowledge.

I agree the range is classic old California woodlands, and adds to the enjoyment. Lots of great shooters there.

Why when slots are open at a match like that would anyone shoot an AR at a public range on a Saturday??
