Default BEWARE: Alliant 300-MP for .44 mag anyone use it? UPDATED PICZ!

HOLY ****!

I loaded up 22.5, 23, 23.5, 24, 24.5 for 240gr 44 mag and I have not yet chronoed them BUT I will when I get the chance at another outdoor range.

Today I shot some extras that I made. They were 44 rem mag 240gr Plated FP with 23gr of Alliant 300-MP powder.

I THOUGHT the powder was new so I got it and I went to their site and saw the 25gr max charge so I started around 22.5 and HOLY ****!

My Deagle became a FLAME THROWER!

Now I can KILL IT WITH FIRE! OMG the flame that shot out gave me flashbacks to the bomb going off at the bottom of the elevator at the end of the big gun fight in The Matrix. I closed my eyes on one shot and I saw my eyelids flashed RED. I kept them open for the next shot and I saw flames shoot out to the left and right of me. My eyebrows cinged off and my friend next to me stopped and backed up because he saw the fire coming through the partition on his right. He about dove for cover and then he saw that the fire was everywhere and he could not escape it. It was just THAT bad ****ing ***!

It is going to go up against H-110 and I will see how far the flames go down range. At the 20' mark my target had burned edges around all of the holes that were shot through it and at one point it just lit up and burned away, that triggered the sprinklers to turn on and then we all had to leave.

I am glad my deagle has been coated with Black-T because it shed water like you would not believe... Crazy crazy crazy...

(okay I admit that I like to publish fictional novels and SOME of this was slightly exaggerated)

GET SOME!

Alliant 300-MP. Imma gonna load it up now in .410 and try it at the skeet clinic... (yes it is good for .410 too)

This has been a public service announcement.

I've been using it in 357 seems to work pretty there too. It being run through a rifle though, so I haven't seen the big flash. I have not chrono'ed it, but at 50 and 100 yards the PIO was higher than my 2400 load, telling me there might be more velocity.

Yeah, but but....can you hit anything with it? Or do you just love loud noises and lots of targets a la flambe? How was the recoil? A huge flash will change the perceived recoil a lot, makes it worse than it really is. [/I][/I]

Can we some groupings, velocity, etc....

Flames are cool but accuracy and speed are better.

LoL!

Accuracy is decent. I will get some pics this week if I have not doomed myself at the local indoor range. If I can get to the outside range then I will get some velocity readings.

Perceived recoil was slightly less then H110. The flame was NEVER before seen in any of my H110, 4227, AA#7, Blue Dot, 2400 loads...

Here is the H-110 23.3gr load with 240gr Pfp

And here is the MP-300 about a 23.0~23.1gr load I think. Unlike the H-110 load, this produces a fireball that lingers a bit. It is actually burning longer than the H-110 so I can only imagine that it means this is a slightly slower powder then H-110 ?

You might want to put the chrono up against target don't want to set the poor thing on fire.

Funny you mention that. I was going to get a magnetospeed chrono to do future tests so that I can do them inside...

People at the range tell me i should see the fireball coming off my DEagle when I shoot loads of 296. They offer to shoot it for me while I stand on the sideline. My favorite load for my DEagle is max charge of AA9 capped with 180 grain JHP. I don't get much flash with that during daytime shooting. I'm gonna have to try that powder next time. Sounds like the ticket for 460 and 500 loads.

Yeah, but I cut mine back to 20.7 and think that works better from a purely fun meter perspective, while still seriously magnum.

I have been using 300MP from a snubnose 357mag. I like it because I don't need to wax the hair off my hands when I get manicures. I am almost out, so I'll use 2400 when I run out. I don't shoot much magnum handgun.

But do you have a 44 Mag and use 300-MP in it? Thread drift alert.

I sort of wish someone would come shoot a night match with these roman candle loads... I'm going to light off some 41 magnum with 20.5 of H110 and 210 JHP's this Sat night.. they were fireballing similarly to the 300-mr above.. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to shoot these loads.. I can say though that the best fireballs I used to get were with my 30-30 contender, firing 110 jacketed bullets and something like 34 gr of H335.. What a handfull.

So does 300-MP make a bigger fireball than W296/H110? From the pics it looks like about the same.

Yes it does. When I filmed tonight's shoot at RMR, I noticed that I got NOTHING good from shooting my H-110, well, the pics are very bad in that they show nothing like you would expect to see. BUT with the 300 MP...

Oh LDFO!

Here are some pics shot with my pivotheads in 1080p.

When I go back on Sunday, I think I will shoot again, but this time in 720P and in 60 FPS.

These are screen shots at 30 FPS.

I actually have a movie on youtube of the two batches I test fired and filmed well, I put up 4 new movies last night, two of the H-110 and two of the 300-MP. Tomorrow I will see if I can catch it in 60 FPS at 720P...
