Most folks use a .22 because you can use about 400 rounds over the two day course of fire (most of it on day 2). A box of 550 rounds costs about $20, so it's pretty economical. If you don't have a rifle, the Appleseed folks can usually make arrangements to provide one if you prearrange it, such as here on this forum.

You will shoot ALL day both days. Typically ending around 5 or 6 pm. It is very important that you bring a lunch as there is a lunchtime story event both days. Bring TONS of water. You do NOT want to cramp up while laying prone! If you have an Eazy-up, bring it. You will also want some sort of ground tarp or pad or blanket to lay down on. I would advise against anything black, as it cooks in the sun between rounds when they are teaching or your checking your targets.

There is definitely a range fee at Raahagues. I don't recall what it is, but it might be as much as $20. Sorry, I just don't remember. I think the registration page cites this cost.

I whole heartedly reccommend this course. I have put my whole family through it, including wife, 8 year old daughter, and 12 year old son. Its fantastic training and you will see an increadible amount of improvement in whatever you think your marksmanship skill is at the moment. Lots of military and LEO's have been through the program and been amazed at their improvement. It's really that good. And FUN!

By the end of the day, you'll be placing your shots in the corners of the 1" square, on purpose!

Default Re Loaners

glbtrottr,

Glad to have you come out. I have 2 rifles that can be loaned. I will be the guy in the Red Hat with the Clip Board running around like headless chicken. I should be easy to spot. My rifles are not too picky, so you can bring any brand of cheap 22 ammo, about 500-600 rnds per shooter for the weekend will do the job.

All the best,
Robert

A couple of clarifications.

Range fees are $20 per day, so $40 per person for the weekend.

This event runs 8:30am to 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday.

I will be at Raahauge's to shoot, but not be part of Appleseed this time around. I will look out for you with the 'red hat'.

I am interested in Appleseed but not this time around. I need to get my 10/22 ready... Hope to meet some of you!

Thanks, all! I'll be the guy with a group of 12-14 with a couple of women, a retired decorated US Marine Coronel, and ...dogs. we tried hard to get nearly a dozen newbies to come, but .223 is expensive so I'll bring a ton of .22 ammo and anyone who can lend a 22 would be much appreciated. Between dogs, chicks and an "infidel" Tshirt I doubt I'll be missed thanks!
