That blows and it's why I try to invest in my own tools as problems arise if ever. Hope you get it sorted out. I pick up my 590a1 in a couple weeks.

Pick up my new 930HS in 9 days. Looking forward to getting started. Decided to go with the HS as a starting point instead of the SPX because of the cost, and I don't think the SPXs sights and rail will do me much good.
I'll be ordering the +2 extension, fiber optic/tritium sight, TLR-1, nordic clamp with rail, and a sling. Can't wait!

Elite Tactical Advantage have this new hand guard that I just install on my 930. The SF logo and the bridge is awesome. Nice piece of art.

Why did you just show that to me?!
I'm too broke as it is!

Adding to the list.

I was only able to find this one other place after hours of searching on the internet.

The other day when we did the full strip and deep clean, we unscrewed the notched retainer on the end of the gas chamber (opposite side of where the piston is inserted.

This let a VERY stout spring out and also a metal spacer with metal o-ring inset into it.
We could not figure out where it went after we started to reassemble it and put it in the wrong place.
These parts are not shown anywhere in the exploded views in the owners manual.
I found one post of the exact same experience someone else had.
Also I am now not able to reinsert the spring and screw it down since I don't have the things to rig up a DIY jig so I'm out $35 to the gunsmith to screw it back down.

This is the order of the parts in the gas chamber that were removed to clean out LOTS of carbon that are not mentioned in any documentation.
(Note: Metal spacer under spring has conical-beveled edge facing spring)

Only remove these if you have 2 blocks of Delrin and a C-clamp to assist in getting it back together or don't mind bringing it to a gun smith.

Now that it is very clean I will just stay up on soaking it in solvent and lubing to avoid ever taking it apart again.

Hope this helps someone.
The reason this is so hard to remove and re-install, as you may have guessed, is that it is really not necessary to remove under years of normal use. Our oldest 930, my wife's competition gun, has thousands of rounds through it and is running perfectly. We have never taken the spring assembly out of the barrel. Keep this portion of the gun dry and it will (basically) self clean and function properly for the most part. Never had a problem with any of ours.

Cool Thread. I just picked up a 930 spx blackwater for 599 at turners! Thought it was a good deal. Looking forward to shooting it! Sorry to threadjack thought I would say that though.

Figured as much, but when we tore everything down deep to get all of the horrendous carbon out that's when this nightmare started
I'm handling it and will wait until resolution to post details.
Glad to hear I won't ever need to touch it again though!

I'm kind of glad I missed that $599.99 Calgun deal at Turner's... Because I REALLY wanted the 590a1 (perhaps not as soon as right then and there) but between this thread and that deal making it only $80 more than the 590a1 I'd have probably DROS'ed that and broken my rule...

Both great guns this will be my first semi shotgun so we'll see I have been using pump shotguns for 4 years now so hopefully I wont be dissapointed. I really liked the way it felt

Quick note:
Read that other SPX owners found their 930's did not like Low Recoil Fiocchi Buckshot.
Mine doesn't either.

One bonus to pumps... Love all shot. Im torn between a semi auto or an AR as post-SHOT 2012 purchase.

I don't think you can go wrong with either! I was in your same position then I made the plunge and got the 930 SPX. I then told myself I would get a AR, but the Benelli M4 kept calling my name (LOL) so I got that.

Shotguns are a seductive lot. How is that M4 compared to 930 for 3x the price?

Mesa Tactical just posted an update on their Urbino 930spx stock on their forum.

Looking good! Still can't figure out how to post on there though...

LOL, probably not worth it for 90% of the people

Have you installed the ETA follower yet? Does it limit round capacity or bind at all?

Update on the 930 SPX:

I decided to revert back to the stock extension tube and spring. I have been experiencing a lot of hang ups suddenly with the stock follower and Nordic spring that I haven't been able to resolve. No issues with the stock spring and extension tube so it will stay in that configuration.

Yeah I was just curious if they were cheaper anywhere else.
I'm not sure about their description...
" 6 Shot Model fits 18" barrel or longer. 7 Shot Model fits 20" barrel or longer"
Doesn't the 7-shot fit on the 18" barrel SPX?

ETA follower (which turned out to be lime green which I was pretty happy about) functions flawlessly and I did not lose any capacity in mine.

Thanks for the info, I had heard that and many other followers made the capacity 6+1 rather than 7+1. How tight is the 7th round fit in the tube? Is there still a bit more room to go?

When you install the Nordic extension you must install the Nordic follower to get the gun to run 100%. I have a pile of stock Remington and Mossberg followers. The transition from the ext to the stock tube will have a little bit of a bump in it 90% of the time. THe short stock followers everyone uses these days can't handle it.

The Nordic follower will solve the problem you are having.

I trust my 930 SPX again!
Brought her out along with my handgun to the range last night after fixing the gas chamber issue and wire brushing the hell out of the mag tube.
Cycled 50 rounds of Fed Target Loads (the pink breast cancer shells).

Not ONE fail to eject issue now!
Finally she is cycling like she did on the first time out.
I finally trust her for home defense again.
Going to try the dreaded Winchester Wally Loads next time to ensure it will cycle everything before keeping it loaded with Hornady Buckshot in the closet.

Happy days!

I was just hoping to find one a little cheaper from someone that already upgraded. Every few bucks saved counts at this point

Oh I see. Yeah I definitely feel you on that.
For me, I don't see a need to upgrade from the Choate.
I'm sure you'll find one if you look hard enough.

I just got back from the range with my new 930 SPX and I couldn't be happier. I didn't clean it any, just doused the bolt in slip2000 EWL and ran it. I shot 75 rounds of federal 7 1/2 bird shot I got at Walmart, also 20 or so Fiochi low recoil 00 buck and 20 Remington full power slugs. Not a single stoppage of any kind.

I added a Choate orange follower and a Nordic barrel clamp as well. Very pleased so far.

Had 3 failures to eject Federal birdshot in my first range trip yesterday. Only put 15 or so rounds of buck through it first, so it isn't really broken in yet. After a couple hundred I expect that it will be good to go.

I'll have to borrow my roommate's DSLR and get some pics (and more importantly, go to the range soon).

I've had my 930 field/HD combo for 3 years now, never had a stoppage shooting all kinds of rounds. I got it because I didn't like the (lack of) cheek weld with the ghost rings on the SPX.

Just threw on a Nordic +3, Nordic Clamp, TLR-1, GGGAZ follower, GGGAZ bolt handle, GGGAZ sling adapter, and a single point with a bungee. I'm stoked to hear Mesa is making progress on the urbino!!!!

Did you apply any lube before running it? These need to run wet to run reliably.
