I get my rimfire rifle out of jail tomorrow. Gonna shoot in this match, so watch out last place!

Sprung from jail! Can't wait to test her out!

IZZY! Thank you again and again.
The 50 yd scoped target is also my favorite, I've been hoping to see this one again. Just for fun I'm going to try it at 25 irons too.

Won't be participating this month.

However, I am in the process of designing a new target speciailly for the purpose of testing natural body both eyes open aim with a pistol at 25 yard, 15 yards and 7 yards.

I guess when I'm done Izzy, your're the person I should upload it to first in BETA form, then in adjusted form?

I use it to decompress after a fun day at work. Keep the bubble baths & aroma therapy candles...give me my rifle/pistol and a monthly rimfire target and I'm good to go.

It actually doesn't take much of my time, maybe 3 hours per month, tops. I enjoy doing it and since I am retired I like to keep busy (keeps me away from FoxNews, it can be addictive). I like to see all the shooters enjoying and improving on their skills although it appears that some of you are gonna kick my *&# in the near future, at least it will be a change from USMCCHET9296 doing it.

Reality sets in. Went to the range after picking up my MK II. Meet shakey(left hand) and twitchy (right hand). Have to get adjustable sights as the ones on it now are fixed. I am rock steady with my Colt Trooper III 357mag.
With the MK i am all-over the place shooting OH. Went to the bench and shot off of soft support and did a whole lot better. I have work to do.
Tried six different bullets, only 1 ftf (winchester 333) and one ftl ( Thunder turd).

Awesome! Hope to enter for the first time this month now that I finally got some glass on my Savage.

Time to see if all that practice with the air rifle in the backyard is paying off

I am going to try to get a 100 yard and a 50 yard scoped target posted tomorrow. Thursday I am getting shoulder surgery on my firing side and will be down for about a month. So I'm crossing my fingers and hope the Mojave desert isn't very windy tomorrow. And again thanks for all the motivation last month!

I had orthoscopic surgery on my shoulder 18 months ago. Take it easy for a while. I went out and played golf 3 weeks after surgery and then took another 6 months before it healed. So take it easy and go slow afterwards, it may feel fine but may not be 100%. Cured all my problems though.

Well here it is. Don't know if I am jittery today or my 10/22 is dirty or something. I have to say the 50yd this month is a pain in the butt. Please chime in if I scored the target incorrectly. Sadly this is th eonly one I'll be able to put into the match this month.

Score: 63

I accidently cut off the score when I cropped the image. I also scored it at 63. I always seem to make things harder then they have to be.

My first two targets would indicate that I should join a Russian hostage rescue team... lol.

Once I settled down a little, I popped this out.

Scoped 50yd - 74 pts

Hey guys, I need your help. I need to get something for the 100 yard targets the 22lr is just not working out, it's probably me. What are the pro's and con's on the 22 WMR vs. the 17 HMR ???

I am posting this in this thread because I value a competitors opinion from people that actually shoot matches and not people that just talk about it. Thanks for your help

I recommend you get a 22lr :-) hahaha sorry, I had to!
Where are you located by chance? We are going to do a Known Distance Appleseed at Burro in July, 100 yard 22lrs with come ups! Damn Straight!
No silly bipods or tryharderpods or applepod, unibrows or other! Just a sling and rifle, steady hold factors, 6 steps, npoa and come ups.

Let me preface this with the fact that I have never shot either .22WMR or .17HMR and I could be completely wrong.

To my knowledge, .17HMR is faster and flatter shooting due to its lighter bullet. On the downside, since the bullet is in fact lighter, it will drift more with the wind.

I had the same issue so I bought a CZ American convertible. It came in a 22lr, I plan to order the .17HMR barrel in a few weeks.
Also I found a nice Marlin 783 .22WMR so now I have all three covered.
Sorry I'm no help am I?

Before we help you spend your $$$ please provide the following info.

What rifle?
What scope and magnification?
What ammo?
What is your bench rest set-up?
How long have you been trying the 100yd target?

Now to help you spend your money, .17HMR will outshoot a .22WMR 9 out of 10 times. I have both and that's my experience, that said I love em both but the 17HMR will more consistantly shoot 1" five shot groups @ 100yds than the 22WMR but you gotta have a scope that is right for that distance when target shooting for small groups.

What rifle? CZ455 or Savage 17 HMR
What scope and magnification? 4-16 x 50mm ????
What ammo? whatever works
What is your bench rest set-up? front and rear bag for now
How long have you been trying the 100yd target? well most of you know I am more of a Pistol guy, I just started to shoot rifle at short range but it is time to start shooting longer range. I just don't want to give up any performance from the start.

I really meant what rifle are you shooting now? My choice of scopes for 100yds are a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X and a Weaver T-24 (24X). Easily see bullet holes at that distance. If your eyes are great you might be OK with a 16X but on the edge for 100yd target shooting. 16X is fine for hunting @100yds.

My ammo choices for .22WMR is CCI Varmint/Target, for .17HMR it is Hornady V-max 17gr in my Savage 93r17. Some of the Savage rifles do better with the Hornady 20gr ammo, once again gotta test it.

well I been doing my home work and it looks like it's going to be the
Savage 93r17 BVTSS so now all I have to do is to find one. The Savage has one of the best triggers from the factory. The scope is going to be 6-24x50 hopefully it will be the Weaver V24 $$$$$$ ouch

I just got an Email telling me my 10/22 charger trigger is going to take 2-4 weeks to get back from Brimstone Gunsmithing.

Steve...you might get to keep your pistol wins this month. If I do get it back you might be in trouble. You are probably too busy with the rifle targets care tho.

You can always borrow one of my pistols to shoot the matches, I have plenty of them.

124 I guess the nice sunshine and no wind got in my way of a perfect score...

I am posting this in this thread because I value a competitors opinion from people that actually shoot matches and not people that just talk about it. Thanks for your help
I would try a lot of different .22lr ammo out of your rifle, from a bench, with a front and rear sand bag, with a scope (if possible) before dishing out the cash for a new rifle...

That being said, I would also hold out on a "magnum" rimfire... for the time being. Winchester just released there magnum, the 17 WMR, with a 20gr bullet at like 3000 FPS, and a 25 gr bullet at like 2600 fps. I have no idea what the accuracy is like, but if it catches on I will have one in a savage for the 25gr pills. Good .308 trainer (to a degree)

Wow. Between how cool the 50 yard scoped target is, and the fact that I am not last on the year to date points.... I am going to try and shoot this month.

Gotta maintain my record... lol
